As we continue to celebrate the courage and resilience of the youth, we reflect on this powerful quote which urges us to continue challenging the status quo. Radical change is possible because we will make it possible!

Behind the debate are more than legal arguments.

There are different systems and interests, and yet the lives and voices of women and girls are directly affected.

For years, advocates have pushed for reform, yet the 2015 Termination of Pregnancy Bill has still not been enacted.

So perhaps the question is not only:

“Should Malawi reform its abortion law?”

It is also:

“What is keeping reform from happening?”

For Equality was sad to hear about the passing of Mbumba Nkhoma. Mbumba was a multi-faceted creative and a vocal feminist who we had the privilege to work with on several occasions.
May she Rest in Power🙏🏾

Day 2 of the National Youth Symposium promised a lively programme and it definitely delivered.

Our special guests and panellists offered informative and thought-provoking insights and it became increasingly clear that this is only the beginning.

We hope this platform will act as a catalyst to ensure youth engagement on public debt is the new norm because how we manage our debt will also inform key development outcomes.

For Equality is proud to be a part of the youth consortium that organised this symposium and we are grateful to all partners, officials and participants who made this possible.

The National Youth Symposium winds down today but the energy is still alive!

We were excited to have our Guest of Honour- Mr. Patrick Laphava, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance with us today. He affirmed government commitment to engage with youth on issues that shape our economy and future, urging us to continue challenging government where necessary as we become active partners to build the Malawi we want to see.

Key delegates from the European Union in Malawi and United Nations Malawi also expressed their support for this initiative, reminding us that we play an important role beyond simply demanding change- the youth of today can also define what a better Malawi looks like.

We’ll be sharing more highlights and takeaways soon!

From eye-opening presentations to engaging conversations- participants from across the nation came together to reimagine youth engagement on issues of public debt and governance.

“Let us stop being watchers of public affairs and become active citizens!”- CA Ernest Mangani, the Director of Finance of the National Youth Council of Malawi.

Will we see you there tomorrow?
