Malawi's Gender Equality Act (2013) recognises the right to choose the number of children and when to bear those children.

That means reproductive health is not just about biology. It is about choice, dignity, information and the ability to make decisions about your own future.

Last week, For Equality was invited to a Post-Election Review (PER) engagement organised by NGO-GCN in partnership with UN Women. The meeting brought together Women-led organisations and CSOs to review political and electoral processes concerning women’s political participation and representation, and develop a position paper on the key gender asks which will be presented to MEC.

NGO-GCN has established a vital platform to strengthen women’s political empowerment. We look forward to working with them and other women-led organisations to continue lobbying for legal provisions that guarantee women’s representation at all levels, including young women and women living with disabilities.

A gender just society must ensure all members of its citizenry are well-represented and able to actively contribute to key decision-making processes, and that is the work For Equality is proud to be a part of.

As the 2026 National Youth Summit comes to a close, we appreciate the National Youth Council of Malawi for bringing together young people to connect, learn, share ideas and engage on issues shaping Malawi’s future.

For Equality was honoured to be part of the Organizing Committee for this three-day Summit, contributing to a platform that amplified youth voices and created space for meaningful dialogue and opportunities.

Day 2 of the 2026 National Youth Summit brought another day of meaningful conversations.

From the Ministerial Scorecard on youth mainstreaming in agriculture, tourism, mining and manufacturing to conversations on green jobs, leadership and resource mobilisation, young people had the opportunity to engage, question and explore pathways to greater participation and opportunity.

The breakout sessions added another layer to these conversations, creating space for young people to deepen their knowledge, connect around shared interests and explore practical ways to turn ideas into action.
