UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, delivers a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. The Country Office in Malawi consists of a Representative, a Deputy Representative, an Assistant Representative, an Operations Manager, 7 National Program Officers and support staff. The UNFPA Country Program (CP) in Malawi is implemente
d in accordance with UNFPA policies and procedures, and through government, and civil society partners. UNFPA and the Government of Malawi developed joint programs with the United Nations and other development partners in the areas of HIV prevention, response to gender-based violence and data management and utilization and the implementation of the road map on maternal and neonatal mortality reduction. The actual programme areas include:
Sexual and reproductive health (including family planning, maternal health and HIV). Priority on adolescents, especially on very young adolescent girls and boys, particularly increased availability of comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services. Gender equality, women’s and girls’ empowerment, and reproductive rights, including for the most vulnerable and marginalized women, adolescents and youth. Integration of evidence-based analysis on population dynamics and their links to sustainable development, sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, HIV and gender equality. The 7th CP was implemented using a results-based planning, monitoring and evaluation approach. A monitoring and evaluation framework is implemented for timely performance assessment, and an end of program evaluation to assess the achievements of the program, and to inform the development of the next country program.
