We organised and mobilised young people to talk about decent work for the youth in Malawi, and the conversation has started! ๐ฅ
Many young Malawians work hard every day, but too often their work is not decent work. Take a young person in Mchinji doing ganyu on a farm. They work long hours in the sun for low pay, with no contract and no protective gear. If they get injured or fall sick, they get no support. When the season ends, the income stops. This is the reality for thousands of young people in farming, vending, construction and domestic work across Malawi.
Decent work means fair pay, safe working conditions, social protection, and a voice at work. Young people need all of these to build their lives and support their families.
During our engagements, young people shared their experiences, named the challenges they face, and proposed solutions to employers, local leaders and duty bearers.
The conversation has started, and we will keep engaging until every young person in Malawi has access to dignified, safe and fairly paid work. ActionAid Malawi GLOBAL PLATFORMS
