Young people are learning, organising, creating and building. But too often, the barriers around them make it difficult to turn skills into decent livelihoods.
Decent work needs more than training.

It needs access to resources, fair opportunities, decent working conditions and policies that put young people at the centre.
This is why we are creating spaces for young people to LEARN, CONNECT, ORGANISE AND TAKE ACTION around decent work.
Because young people should not only be prepared for the future we must have a voice in shaping it GLOBAL PLATFORMS Youth Forum for National Transformation

4th Throwback!

Our 4th Throwback to the 2026 National Youth Symposium on Public Debt! 🇲🇼

A powerful moment where young people stepped forward to question, engage and challenge the status quo.

“Youths are involved as observers and not to influence decisions. As youths, let’s wake up and take action.”

The message was clear: young people must move from being observers to becoming active participants in decisions that shape their future

WHO GETS TO HAVE DECENT WORK?

And what does decent work really mean for young people? For us, it is more than having a job. It is about DIGNITY. RIGHTS. FAIRNESS. SAFETY. OPPORTUNITY. Across Malawi, young people are working, hustling, creating, farming, innovating and building livelihoods every day. Yet too many remain trapped in insecure and vulnerable work, with limited opportunities to earn a decent income and shape the economic systems that affect their lives.

We believe young people should not have to choose between work and dignity. That is why Global Platform Malawi together with Youth Forum for National Transformation, is starting the conversation on DECENT WORK.

Over the coming weeks, we will bring young people into the conversation to LEARN. QUESTION. ORGANISE. ACT.

We will explore what decent work means, listen to young people's experiences, challenge the structures that keep young people in vulnerable work, and amplify collective action for a more just and inclusive economy. Because change does not happen by waiting for opportunities.
WE BUILD POWER.
WE CREATE OPPORTUNITIES.
WE DEMAND DIGNITY.

Day One of the National Youth Symposium on Debt Transparency and Management has been an incredible start!

The symposium kicked off with great energy, bringing together young people, policymakers, governance experts, and development partners for meaningful dialogue on fiscal governance and public debt.
It has been a day filled with valuable insights, engaging discussions, and practical perspectives from governance experts, reinforcing the importance of youth participation in promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable public finance management.
We look forward to an even more impactful second day as we continue shaping the conversation on Malawi's fiscal future.

The conversation starts today!

For the next two days, over 100 young people from across Malawi will come together at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe for the 2026 National Youth Symposium on Debt Transparency and Management.

The symposium begins today with youth-focused discussions that will build participants' understanding of fiscal governance and public debt. Tomorrow, the conversation will expand into a multi-stakeholder engagement, bringing young people face-to-face with policymakers, governance experts, economists, and development partners to discuss practical solutions for strengthening debt transparency, accountability, and inclusive economic governance.

Public debt affects every citizen from the quality of education and healthcare to employment opportunities and infrastructure. It is therefore essential that young people understand these issues and contribute meaningfully to shaping Malawi's fiscal future.

Together, we are amplifying youth voices for transparent, accountable, and sustainable public finance management.

FOUR DAYS TO GO! 🇲🇼

We are just 4 days away from the first-ever National Youth Symposium on Public Debt a timely and important conversation as Malawi continues to face a public debt crisis.

More than 100 young people from across the country will gather physically at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe for this landmark event.

Day One will focus on capacity building, where participants will strengthen their understanding of fiscal governance, public debt, and debt transparency through sessions led by governance experts and economists.

Day Two will bring together young people, policymakers, governance experts, development partners, and other key stakeholders for a high-level dialogue on debt transparency, accountability, and youth participation in fiscal governance. We are also honored to welcome the Minister of Finance as part of the engagement.

For those who will not be able to attend in person, we have arranged a hybrid participation option so you're covered!

We are also delighted to have Ms. Yandura Chipeta, Executive Director of ActionAid Malawi, as one of our distinguished facilitators, sharing expertise and insights with young people.

The countdown is on. See you in 4 days! GLOBAL PLATFORMS

Under the Waste GOLD Initiative, in collaboration with YOFONAT, we are intensifying our campaign to promote safe and sustainable agricultural practices through door-to-door community engagements with the One4Ten youth and women cooperatives in the Lumbadzi and Mtandile communities. As part of this initiative, we are facilitating hands-on training in agroecology, organic fertilizer production, and other climate-smart farming practices to equip young people and women with practical green skills that enhance food security, environmental sustainability, and resilient livelihoods.
