Food cannot be grown in dead soil, and a community cannot be built on land that has been taken away. Furthermore, something cannot be considered sustainable if the ground beneath it becomes hollower each year.

In Malawi, declining crop yields due to soil degradation have resulted in a widespread reliance on synthetic fertilizers and chemical inputs to maintain production. While these solutions provide short-term benefits, they frequently fail to address the underlying causes of soil deterioration.

Thanzi265 we believe that regenerative farming is not just a catchphrase; it is the best and only long-term strategy. Instead of working against the soil, work with it; whatever you take from it, return to it.
Through the Nourishing Minds Project, our beneficiaries gain practical knowledge and hands-on skills from our training programs, which cover organic pesticide control and organic manure production. They can now produce safe, chemical-free manure from locally available, inexpensive, and often overlooked materials in their communities.

This initiative extends beyond soil restoration. It lowers farming costs, equips the next generation with essential agricultural skills, promotes food security, and helps to combat malnutrition while involving children in food production, creating a generation that knows to farm and eat right.

The goal of these trainings is changing attitudes and encouraging participation of children in sustainable agriculture, so they understand about soil health, what should be added to it, and the long-term risks of using harmful chemicals. Smart farming promotes healthy soil which leads to stronger crops and healthier beings.

Our 1st Quarter 2026 newsletter is here!

At Thanzi265, we believe sustainable change happens when knowledge meets the community. This quarter, we’re sharing three stories that prove just that.

1. We opened our gates to villagers who came to see how we grow healthy, chemical-free crops—and left with answers rooted in observation, patience, and working with nature.

2. In Katiyi village, children from our Nourishment Mind project turned their backyards into a thriving kitchen garden, using grass as natural w**d control to protect their nursery beds.

3. Meanwhile, the Tikondane women’s group transformed the skills they gained from our trainings—and seed capital from Thanzi265—into a horticultural business that now brings fresh, chemical‑free vegetables to their neighborhood while strengthening financial independence and table banking.

From soil to seedlings, from youth to women entrepreneurs—these are the ripples of change we’re honored to nurture.

Read the full newsletter and join us in celebrating a quarter of growth, resilience, and community action.

We had the great privilege of having three villages come to see how we do it. They've seen Thanzi265 grow healthy crops without using any chemicals or pesticides in the two years we've been in operation. Today, they were finally able to ask: how?

We took them through the soil, compost, and natural pest control, which we've refined season after season. There are no secrets. Just observe, be patient, and work with nature rather than against it.

They left with answers, and we were grateful for neighbors who cared enough to Ask.

This also gave us the strength to do more, as most villagers now understand and believe that it is possible to rejuvenate the soil and grow food in a sustainable manner.

As we continue with the Nourishing Minds 2nd Cycle, our last session focused on hands-on learning because we believe that experiential learning is the best way to learn!!
The aim was to teach our young participants about protecting the environment, but we had to do it in the most fun way possible: with an egg drop challenge!

The mission was simple but exciting: each team was given one fragile egg and instructed to protect it "at all costs." Is there a catch? They could only use biodegradable materials from around the community.

It was incredible to watch them scramble (no pun intended!) to gather leaves, grass, old paper, and twigs to construct their protective casings. The real test came when they threw their wrapped eggs from a high point! We all held our breath..

And the result? Not a single egg broke! 🎉

But more importantly, the lessons they learned were unbreakable:

The Power of Teamwork: Seeing the children brainstorm, build, and cheer for each other was a beautiful reminder that we can achieve so much more together.

Eyes for the Environment: They learned to identify what materials can return to the earth safely and which ones can harm it, all through a simple, fun game.

The "Why" Behind Protection: The egg became a symbol of our fragile planet. They understood that just like they carefully built a safe nest for their egg, we must also actively work to create a safe, healthy environment for our future.

These bright ideas and passion from children always give us so much hope for a greener, cleaner tomorrow. 🌍💚

- We create a future where every child has the ability to care for the environment and eat healthily.

A New Chapter Begins in Katiyi Village!
With the funding from kanthari Foundation Switzerland the Nourishing Minds Project officially launched another cycle in Katiyi Village. Our recent community sensitization meeting was filled with incredible warmth and enthusiasm from our team. We were humbled by the community's warm welcome, and their eager willingness to engage, learn, and share their indigenous knowledge exemplifies the type of partnership that drives long-term change. They exuded a palpable energy as they expressed their excitement about being a part of this journey.
While this welcoming spirit made us happy, we were surprised to learn that we were the first to bring knowledge about sustainable farming, nutrition, and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) to their doorstep. This is why our work is so important.
The meeting concluded on a truly magical note. The women filled the air with beautiful, uplifting songs. The Thanzi265 team was so moved by the spirit of togetherness that we couldn't resist joining in the dance! In that moment, we didn't feel like outsiders; we felt at home and that moment of pure connection is what community-driven development is all about.
This is more than a project; it's the beginning of a beautiful collaboration. We’re not just starting a project; we’re building a family. Sometimes, the best meetings end with a dance.

We’re very excited to share highlights from our first exposure trip to Moving Windmills in Kasungu, Malawi! This historic day, which was sponsored by USAFI and included 24 participants from our project, The Nourishing Minds Project, was an in-depth exploration of sustainability and innovation.

By bridging the gap between classroom instruction and real-world application, exposure trips give our young minds motivation, useful skills, and a vision for long-lasting change.

The main lessons and activities from the trip were as follows:
🔹 Compost Manure Production: Hands-on training on how to make and use compost manure and its importance in eco-friendly farming methods.
🔹 Hub Tours: Discovered the important community projects that Moving Windmills is implementing.
🔹 Film Screening: Our participants have a chance to watch the movie which is based on the life of founder ('Te Boy Who Harnessed the Wind').
🔹 Munthuthama Hub: Children were engaged with sustainable agriculture models and a thriving community library fostering education.

Moving Windmills commended EmpowerHer Malawi, a Thanzi265 women-focused initiative that prioritizes economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy, and they are open to using our approach.

We are currently working on synergies that will allow us to continue working together and learning from one another, which will enhance cooperation and increase our combined influence in improving Malawian communities.

Forests are disappearing at a startling rate in Malawi's rural Lilongwe (Dyuku Village & Surrounding Communities). Climate pressures, unsustainable farming practices, and the production of charcoal are all contributing factors to deforestation, which is depriving communities of essential resources, increasing food insecurity, and hastening environmental collapse.

At Thanzi265, we are empowering the next generation to take on this crisis head-on. 🌱

Our Method:
✅ Teaching Sustainable Agriculture (Agroforestry): We train children to integrate trees with crops—boosting soil health, biodiversity, and yields while combating erosion.
✅ Climate Education: Children are taught how deforestation contributes to climate change and how trees are essential for resilience, clean air, and water.
✅ Action Over Words: By participating in our Tree Planting Day, our Nourishing Minds participants helped to restore the degraded land surrounding the Thanzi265 farm. We planted 250+ native seedlings—symbols of renewal and commitment.

Why Children?

They are the farmers, leaders, and environmental stewards of Malawi's future. We are planting the seeds for a more sustainable and greener future where communities flourish alongside nature rather than in opposition to it by teaching them agroforestry skills now.

With each tree planted:
🌿 Restores ecosystems for wildlife and pollinators.
🌿 Secures food systems for families.
🌿 Captures carbon, cooling our warming planet.

For our supporters and partners:

Join the cause, volunteer, or sponsor a seedling. Change starts when we literally dig in.

Empowering Women, Transforming Malawi Communities: The EmpowerHer Malawi Journey

For six months, 30 resilient women in Malawi immersed themselves in intensive training—mastering Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), business strategy, financial literacy, and the power of saving. Today, with seed capital and support from the , they have a chance to rewrite their futures.

These women faced different challenges—extreme poverty, malnutrition, and children denied education.
We provided them with microloans, financial tools, and mentorship to help them start sustainable businesses. Through this project, we assist them in

✅ Income Generation: They will help support their families by earning money.
✅ Nutrition & Health: Healthy meals will become a reality, ending malnutrition cycles.
✅ Education Access: Children, we have a chance to return to school, books in hand.
✅ Economic Independence:Build confidence as they will be able to control their financial destinies.

We at Thanzi265 know this is not just about business—it’s about dismantling systemic barriers. Every kwacha earned, every child educated, and every meal shared strengthens entire communities.

, thank you for believing in Thanzi265 and Malawi’s women.

Join us and share our story, amplify their voices, or partner to scale this impact.

Together, we can prove: When women thrive, societies rise.

We had a fantastic interactive session at Farm where our young participants explored the role that vitamins play in our bodies. Through lively group discussions, participants investigated the role vitamins play in our bodies' general health and well-being.
Every group had an opportunity to share their knowledge and excitement with the rest of the participants by presenting their findings. It was inspiring to see the children actively participating and sharing their knowledge.

At , we empower the next generation with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices about their nutrition and health. This session demonstrated the significance of education and community engagement.

Many Thanks to for making this project possible!

Every day, countless children and girls suffer in silence as their future is jeopardized by violence and various crises, increasing the risk of abuse and exploitation. At Thanzi265, our goal is to establish a secure, caring atmosphere where each child can flourish and have access to basic necessities and space areas.

Together, we can put an end to gender-based violence and guarantee that no child has to grow up in a fearful environment.
