"Unleashing Half the World's Potential - Mariane Pearl"
Poverty, no matter where you encounter it, shares certain universal characteristics, one being a complex interplay of solutions: fixing it here might inadvertently create challenges there. This article struck a chord with me, for one because it clearly highlights the complexities and limitations of focusing on one individual at a time.
Look too at the section "The Ripple Effect" which so convincingly underscores the oft-repeated - but no less true - adage that poverty alleviation starts with empowering women and girls. This resonated strongly with me, together with the article's equally compelling point: when individuals are equipped with the right tools, they will find means to address their own poverty in ways uniquely suited to their circumstances.
Which brings me back to that question, never far from my mind, of how 'efficient' is our approach in RPC in supporting village chicken owners. We already know that raising village chickens is predominantly a woman's preserve. If this article teaches me anything, it is that our efforts align with a proven pathway to meaningful change. It affirms my sense that we're on the right track, focusing on an area where women, quietly and effectively make an important impact on their families and their communities.
And so another shout-out to our generous supporters: the Kyeema Foundation, the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) of the Australian Government, and the many individual donors who enable us to access funding, continue our programs, and make all this possible.
Wish us luck! 🙂
