Following the official launch of Global Money Week on 16th March 2026, the Malawi Microfinance Network (MAMN), in collaboration with its member institutions, actively participated in outreach activities aimed at promoting financial literacy among young people.

As part of the initiative, Pinnacle Financial Services engaged students at African Bible Colleges, while VisionFund Malawi conducted a similar session at Athens Private Schools.

During the sessions, students were taken through practical discussions on money management, the importance of saving, responsible spending, and making informed financial decisions from a young age.

In addition, several other member institutions, including Old Mutual Malawi Finance, Nyasa Capital Finance Ltd , FINCA Malawi , and Swift Capital Growth Partners Limited , carried out various activities across the country, further amplifying the reach and impact of the Global Money Week campaign.

The outreach reflects MAMN’s continued commitment to fostering a culture of financial literacy and inclusion, particularly among the youth, who are key to building a financially responsible future generation.

The Global Money Week was officially launched today, 16th March, 2026 at Zingwangwa Secondary School under the global theme “Smart Money Talks.” The event brought together key stakeholders from the financial sector, educators, and students to promote financial literacy among young people.

The launch ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Governor of The Reserve Bank of Malawi , Dr. Kisu Simwaka, who emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions.

Several microfinance institutions participated in engaging activities aimed at promoting financial education among students. FINCA Malawi organized an interactive debate for students of Zingwangwa Secondary School, while Swift Capital Growth Partners Limited conducted a financial literacy quiz. Students who excelled in these activities were awarded various prizes sponsored by the participating institutions.

A key highlight of the launch was the presentation of Recognition Awards by Dr. Kisu Simwaka to the Malawi Microfinance Network (MAMN) and other institutions, in recognition of their outstanding commitment to advancing financial literacy and promoting financial inclusion in Malawi.

This award also recognizes the outstanding work being carried out by all MAMN member MFIs in advancing financial inclusion through the various initiatives implemented within their operations.

The launch marks the beginning of a series of activities that will be conducted throughout the week to empower young people with financial knowledge and encourage responsible financial behavior.

The Malawi Microfinance Network (MAMN) successfully concluded a 2-day Human Resource and Leadership Training at Edgewater Court Hotel, Lilongwe, on 12th–13th March 2026.

The training brought together participants from various microfinance institutions to strengthen leadership and human resource management. The training was officially opened with remarks from Duncan Phulusa, CEO of MAMN, and Franziska Dost, Country Representative for German Sparkassenstiftung Southern Africa (DSIK), who emphasized the importance of strong leadership and effective HR management in building resilient financial institutions.

Technical sessions were facilitated by Eva Zeller (HR Specialist, German Sparkassenstiftung), Dr.Felix Maulidi (Leadership Development Expert, LUANAR), and W***y Nkhoma Nkhoma (HR Expert, Institute of People Management (IPM). Participants engaged in interactive sessions covering strategic HR, impact leadership, and team building, leaving equipped with practical tools to enhance staff performance, governance, and institutional resilience.

🌸 | Celebrating Women in Microfinance

As we celebrate Women’s Month, we recognize Christian Chikalimba, Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer at Fast Kwacha Limited. With over 8 years of experience in financial management and accounting, Christian continues to contribute to strengthening financial leadership within the sector.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Accounting, Audit, and Information Systems from Malawi College of Accountancy and is currently pursuing the ACCA qualification. In her role, she leads financial strategy, reporting, and regulatory compliance at Fast Kwacha.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Christian also serves as a Board Member of Centre for Governance and Leadership, contributing to governance and leadership development.

We celebrate her dedication, leadership, and contribution to advancing financial inclusion.

On Thursday, 27th February 2026, the Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Microfinance Network (MAMN), Mr. Duncan Phulusa, attended the Credit Data Research Challenge Awards Ceremony held in Blantyre.

The event, organized by Credit Data CRB, marked the culmination of its inaugural Research Challenge initiative under the theme “Research Redefined.” The initiative engaged tertiary students from selected institutions across Malawi, focusing on advancing research in financial literacy and inclusion.

The ceremony was graced by Mr. Henry Mathanga, Deputy Governor responsible for Economics and Regulation at The Reserve Bank of Malawi , who served as Guest of Honour. The awards recognized outstanding research papers, with top-performing students being honored following a rigorous evaluation process by independent academic experts. The event highlighted the importance of research-driven solutions in strengthening financial inclusion and informed decision-making within the financial sector.

On Saturday, 28th February, the Malawi Microfinance Network (MAMN) participated in the launch of the Together Women and Girls Foundation held in Lilongwe at BridgeView Hotel.

During the launch, Mr. Duncan Phulusa , Chief Executive Officer of the Malawi Microfinance Network (MAMN) represented the microfinance sector as a panelist, where he shared insights on the opportunities, challenges, and pathways for youth engagement in microfinance. He highlighted MAMN’s ongoing efforts to develop a Youth Microfinance Initiative aimed at enhancing youth participation in the sector.

He emphasized the importance of financial literacy and skills development before accessing capital and expressed MAMN’s openness to collaborate on capacity-building initiatives that empower young people.
