YASD is honored to represent Malawi at a regional workshop in South Africa organized by Information Training And Outreach Centre For Africa (ITOCA) , bringing together youth-led organizations from 10 SADC countries to design sustainable capacity development projects for youth in agriculture.

Our Executive Director, a young farmer, green entrepreneur, and innovator, is sharing YASD’s proven model from the LOGIC Project and GTF project, including impactful innovations such as crystallized human urine fertilizer, natural pesticides, and practical agroecological farming practices that are transforming livelihoods.

We are excited that these homegrown innovations are gaining regional recognition and may be adopted to empower even more young people to see agriculture as a profitable, climate-resilient, and attractive pathway to success.

Youth Action for Success and Development (YASD), through the VOICE Project, successfully trained 20 youth and women from GVH Chakachadza, Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza as Peer Educators and Community Champions on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH).

The training equipped participants with practical knowledge and skills to understand PSEAH principles, identify and respond to cases of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment, and establish community-based accountability and referral systems for survivors.

Speaking during the two days training, Group Village Head (GVH) Chakachadza applauded YASD for bringing this timely intervention to the area. He highlighted the growing cases of gender-based violence, early marriages, and family neglect, especially during the harvesting season, and emphasized the urgent need for community-led solutions.

The GVH pledged his full support to the trained peer educators and encouraged them to form a structured committee, cascade the knowledge to other community members, and regularly report on awareness activities. He also committed to engage fellow village heads, the Area Development Committee (ADC), and local leaders to strengthen by-laws and accountability mechanisms for preventing GBV and SEAH.

Together, we are empowering communities to create safer, more accountable, and violence-free environments for women, girls, and all vulnerable groups.

On 30 April 2026 in Dedza and 7 May 2026 in Lilongwe, the VOICE Program reached another important milestone as it received official endorsement from the District Executive Committees (DECs) in both Dedza and Lilongwe districts.

The endorsement by the DECs signifies institutional recognition and approval of the program’s relevance, alignment with district development priorities, and its contribution towards inclusive community participation, youth empowerment, governance, and sustainable development. DEC endorsement further strengthens coordination with district stakeholders, facilitates multi-sectoral collaboration, and enhances the program’s legitimacy for implementation at district level.

Implemented by YASD with Core Support funding from IM Swedish Development Partner Southern Africa , the VOICE Program seeks to amplify community voices, promote citizen engagement, and strengthen inclusive development processes that leave no one behind.

We extend our sincere appreciation to both District Councils, members of the District Executive Committees, sector stakeholders, and all partners for their continued support and commitment towards transformative community development.

IM Swedish Development Partner Southern Africa , who provide core support by funding the VOICE Programme under YASD’s Strategic Plan, conducted a courtesy visit to our offices as part of their ongoing commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships and institutional performance. The visit provided a platform for constructive engagement, including a reflective review of our programme implementation and alignment with YASD’s broader development objectives. It also created space for strategic dialogue, knowledge exchange, and mutual accountability in advancing community-driven development outcomes.

A central feature of the engagement was the use of the Adaptameter as a strategic learning and reflection tool to assess YASD’s capacity to adapt to a dynamic and evolving development environment. The process emphasized our organizational agility, responsiveness, and ability to navigate complexity while sustaining impact. The interaction further focused on strengthening our internal systems, enhancing resilience, and ensuring long-term sustainability, while also offering the delegation an opportunity to appreciate the progress, innovation, and impact being realized through the VOICE Programme, reaffirming their confidence in YASD’s mission and development trajectory.

YASD has successfully concluded a 2-day A4I (Action for Innovation) On-boarding Training under the VOICE Program.

The training convened the newly selected A4I Cohort 1 volunteers, positioning them as young professionals with strengthened capacity in youth leadership, volunteerism and civic responsibility, leadership and governance, communication and public speaking, workplace ethics and professionalism, career readiness, personal branding, innovation and problem-solving, networking, and action planning.

Beyond knowledge, the training focused on practical application, mindset shift, and preparing participants to effectively engage, lead, and contribute to community-driven development.

Delivered with support from National Youth Council of Malawi and Youth Action For Success and Development facilitators, the sessions were further enriched by Chifundo Robert of Youth Forum for National Transformation , whose lived experience grounded the training in real-world impact and inspired a strong commitment to service among the volunteers.

On World Malaria Day 2026, under the theme “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must,” we recognize that while global progress continues, Malawi still faces a significant burden, with over 9.4 million reported cases and more than 2,200 deaths in 2024, according to national data. This underscores the urgent need to sustain and scale up interventions.

At YASD, we align with national and global efforts to strengthen prevention, support community-led responses, and advance equitable access to life-saving tools. With innovation advancing and solutions within reach, a malaria-free future is possible, but only through decisive and collective action now.

This World Malaria Day, let us protect those most at risk by keeping our surroundings clean and eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Early awareness, proper protection, and timely treatment remain critical in controlling the spread of malaria.
