We participated in the second meeting of the Core Advisory Group (CAG) on in Lilongwe on Wednesday, where we had the opportunity to present on the ban imposed on us by the Government in 2023.

Operating under this ban has really affected our ability to work freely with refugees and collaborate with partners in the refugee management space.

We appreciated the guidance and recommendations shared by the CAG on possible pathways toward addressing the matter and restoring our freedom to engage and associate with refugee communities.

Did You Know ? 4 Policies That Continue to Limit Refugee Freedom and Opportunities In Malawi..

1. Encampment Policy📌
Refugees are largely restricted to camps such as Dzaleka instead of being allowed to live and move freely across the country.

2. Restrictions on Formal Employment📌
Many refugees face barriers in accessing legal work permits and formal employment opportunities.

3. Limited Access to Higher Education and Scholarships📌
Refugee students often struggle to access universities, sponsorships, student loans, and professional training opportunities.

4. Slow Documentation and Legal Processes📌
Refugees frequently experience delays in obtaining identification documents, refugee status decisions, travel documents, and birth registration services.

Inua continues to fight for policies that promote dignity, inclusion, education, economic participation, protection, and refugee self-reliance in line with international refugee protection frameworks.

Throwback to an important engagement with the Dowa Police and the camp's community police (Sungusungu) in Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

As crime and safety concerns continue to rise in the camp, this meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between refugees, community security structures, and law enforcement to promote peace, protection, and safer communities for everyone in the camp.

Real change begins with dialogue, cooperation, and collective responsibility. Together, we can build a safer and more united Dzaleka. 🤝 www.inuaadvocacy.org
