The World Bank Malawi country team has donated K2.911 million towards this year’s Mother’s Fun Run (MFR), which is targeting Mzimba North Health Office to improve maternal and newborn healthcare.

Presenting the donation on Monday, World Bank Country Manager for Malawi Abdu Muwonge said the team hoped to inspire others to support the initiative.

Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Chief Executive Officer Mbumba Banda said even small contributions can make a difference, citing cases where health facilities lack enough resuscitaires to assist newborn babies in distress.

MFR, an NPL initiative, has raised funds for maternal and newborn healthcare for two decades, supporting one district hospital and surrounding health centres each year.

This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, October 24.
