The Malawi GBV Learning, Innovation and Action Symposium 2026 has come to a successful close.
Over the past two days, we shared lessons, evidence, innovations, and practical solutions under the theme:
"From Evidence to Action: Strengthening Systems, Scaling What Works, and Advancing Collective Action to End Gender-Based Violence."
Together, we explored:

One of the key highlights was the launch of the MICGBV Knowledge Hub, a platform that will support learning, evidence sharing, and informed action across the GBV sector.

A big thank you to all our speakers, presenters, partners, and participants for your contributions and commitment.
The conversations may have ended, but our collective responsibility to end GBV continues. Let us turn learning into action and evidence into impact.

Malawi GBV Learning, Innovation and Action Symposium, 2026

Today, the Malawi GBV Learning, Innovation and Action Symposium 2026 has brought together government institutions, development partners, civil society organisations, researchers, academia, the private sector and practitioners to share evidence, showcase innovation and strengthen collective action to prevent and respond to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Under the theme, “From Evidence to Action: Accelerating Innovation, Learning and Collective Action in Prevention and Response Systems to End GBV,” the Symposium provides a vital platform for translating knowledge into action and strengthening the systems that protect and support survivors while advancing efforts to prevent GBV.

MICGBV is proud to serve as the Convening and Organising Partner for this Symposium, working alongside the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare and UNFPA.

Day 1 has been an inspiring and energising space for learning, knowledge exchange and innovation. Participants have shared promising practices, explored new approaches and strengthened partnerships that are essential to ending GBV in Malawi.

As we look ahead to Day 2, our focus remains clear: moving beyond evidence and dialogue to collective action, innovation and sustainable solutions that create lasting change.

Together, we can strengthen prevention and response systems, amplify what works and accelerate progress towards a Malawi free from Gender-Based Violence.

VISUAL HIGHLIGHTS FOR NATIONAL GENDER POLICY AND OTHER GOVERNMENT POLICIES LAUNCH

At the Launch of the National Gender Policy and other key Government policies, we had the pleasure of engaging with final year Gender and Development students from LUANAR. 🌍✨

The students showed great interest to know the roles of the Consortium and its member organisations, giving us an opportunity to share about the GBVIE module and our plans to expand this initiative to other universities, including LUANAR. 🎓💡

📢 Unima Takes a Stand Against GBV!

The University of Malawi (Unima), in partnership with MUST, has officially launched a new module focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Emergencies.The launch event took place in Zomba and was graced by key stakeholders, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Samson Sajidu and officials from the Ministry of Gender.

🎯 The module, developed with support from the Malawi Consortium on GBV in Emergencies (MICGBV) and University College Dublin, aims to equip students and professionals with the skills needed to respond to GBV cases, especially during crises.

💬 Prof. Sajidu emphasized the importance of training a workforce capable of handling such challenges, while Ben M’bwana from the Ministry of Gender highlighted the need for timely and effective responses to rising GBV cases during emergencies.

🌍 The initiative is a huge step towards building national capacity in GBV prevention and response — and we can’t wait to be joined by other institutions!
