It started with 1,000+ Expressions of Interest from every corner of Malawi. We visited 41, listened deeply, and learned.

Now, 26 communities are advancing towards funding.

This week in Lilongwe, we are hosting the Engagement, Learning & Action Workshop, 26 teams, one room, and countless ideas rooted in the community.

They are learning Mudzi Connect's models and discovering how to turn bold visions into fundable proposals. And honestly? The future of Malawian communities looks very bright.

To all 26: congratulations. You have earned your seat at the table and Mudzi Connect will walk alongside your communities so they can attain their desired goals.

From 29–30 May, Mudzi Connect brought together 10 community foundations for the first convening of 2026.

The mission: Map out the next 3 years of the program.

For 2 days, leaders shared lessons, challenged assumptions, and co-designed the roadmap ahead. We dove into what is working, what needs to change, and how community-led philanthropy can drive real transformation in Malawi.

Mudzi Connect is thrilled to welcome 5 emerging community groups into our Community Philanthropy and Foundations Development Program in Malawi!

A warm welcome to TWESA IN Community Development (Karonga), Do your part initiative (Mzuzu), Tivekeni Initiative (Bwanje Valley, Ntcheu), Makanjira Development Foundation (Makanjira, Mangochi), and Tikondwe CBO (Zomba) — community groups spanning the length and breadth of Malawi, each with a vision to unlock the potential within their communities.

Supported by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and World Connect Inc., we hosted an orientation meeting at Bridge View Hotel, Lilongwe from 25–27 May 2026 — three days of learning, connection, and inspiration to set the foundations up for the work ahead.

Together, we are unlocking the power within communities. The future of philanthropy in Malawi is bright.

Malawi showed up at the Southern Africa Community Foundations Gathering.

Last week, three of our community foundations travelled to Johannesburg for the Southern Africa Community Foundations Gathering (14–16 May), organised by the Initiative for Community Advancement.

For three days, practitioners, emerging community foundations, and partners from across Southern Africa came together to do something powerful; reimagine what locally rooted, community-owned development can look like when we build it together.

The conversations were real. The energy was electric. And the message was clear: communities are not just beneficiaries. They are the solution.

From resource mobilisation to trust-based development, from Asset-Based Community-led Development (ABCD) to long-term resilience, our foundations brought Malawi's voice to the table, and came home with new connections, fresh ideas, and renewed purpose.

Our team is out in the field this week!
