MCM Executive Director Moses Kaufa is attending the African Media Councils Conference 2026 in Lusaka, Zambia, held under the theme “African Media Councils: A Solidarity-Based Approach to Regulatory, Financial and Digital Challenges.”
The two-day conference, running from 17 to 18 March, has attracted media stakeholders from across Africa to deliberate on key challenges affecting the industry, including emerging threats such as fake news, disinformation, and the growing impact of artificial intelligence.
In his remarks, Chairperson of the Media Self-Regulation Council of Zambia (MSCZ), Kennedy K. Mambwe, noted that the conference aims to foster cooperation among African media councils as they confront shared pressures, including restrictive regulatory environments, financial instability, and the rapid shift to digital platforms.
Mambwe highlighted growing concerns such as the spread of fake news, disinformation, and AI-generated content, which are placing increased pressure on journalists and newsrooms to uphold accuracy and credibility. He emphasized the need for collective action, urging media councils and practitioners across the continent to collaborate, share strategies, and strengthen alliances to effectively respond to these emerging threats and sustain independent, credible media systems.
As per the program, on the second day of the conference, MCM Executive Director is expected to make a presentation on the Sustainability of Media Councils, focusing on Funding Models and Solidarity-Based Approaches to Financial Challenges
