GWERO CBO LAUNCHES NEW YOUTH DEPARTMENT "YECO" TO ACCELERATE LOCAL DEVELOPMENT
In a strategic move to boost the pace of community transformation, Gwero Community Based Organization (CBO) has officially established a new youth-led wing known as the Youth Enactment Consortium (YECO). The launch ceremony took place at Katontha, drawing an impressive turnout of 63 energetic young people mobilized from four surrounding Group Villages: Katontha, Mkotamo, Mondwe, and Mphininga. Demonstrating a strong representation from all sides, the attendance registered 34 males and 29 females eager to champion local change.
Gwero CBO management operates on the core principle that rapid and sustainable community development is impossible without the active inclusion of young people. Leadership noted that youths represent the fresh souls of society, possessing a unique ability to adapt swiftly to twenty-first-century technological advancements, which makes them the ideal drivers for modern developmental initiatives.
The Gwero CBO executive delegation was led by Director Mr. Moses Pemba and Program Manager Mr. Joseph Kanzaira, both of whom addressed the newly formed consortium. In his keynote remarks, Mr. Pemba passionately emphasized the profound benefits of young people organizing themselves into development-focused groups. He elaborated that YECO will serve as a vital platform for constructive mindset shifts, moving youths away from unproductive environments and focusing their energy entirely on community progress. Furthermore, he noted that the consortium will foster collective brainstorming, creating a structured space where peer-to-peer dialogues lead to innovative, local solutions for everyday challenges.
Taking the podium, Program Manager Mr. Joseph Kanzaira shared matching sentiments, strongly urging the gathered youth to maintain an unwavering focus on the objectives of the newly launched consortium. He further announced that YECO is designed to be highly interactive, with a comprehensive roadmap packed with diverse activities. These will include economic and financial empowerment initiatives to build self-reliance, physical and emotional well-being programs to support healthy lifestyles, and various social and entertainment projects aimed at fostering unity and talent development.
The establishment of YECO marks a major milestone as a fully fledged department within Gwero CBO. With the 63 trailblazing youths of Katontha, Mkotamo, Mondwe and Mphininga now united under one banner, the organization is poised for a significant acceleration in its community outreach and development programs.
