Creating sustainable opportunities for young people requires strong partnerships, forward-looking policies, and practical skills that match the demands of a changing world. ADRA Malawi recently joined government officials, development partners, and stakeholders in Lilongwe for a national dissemination workshop that focused on advancing green jobs and skills development for adolescents and youth in Malawi.
The engagement is part of the Green Jobs for Adolescents and Youth Project, a collaborative initiative funded by Save the Children Italy and running from June 2023 to May 2026 in Ntcheu and Mzimba districts. The project is implemented through a consortium of partners including Save the Children Malawi, ADRA Malawi, CRECCOM, Mzuzu University, TEVETA, and Emerge Livelihoods, combining expertise in community engagement, technical skills training, certification, and youth entrepreneurship support.
The workshop was graced by Joseph Chirombo, Director of Assessment and Certification Services in the Ministry of Labour, who applauded the consortium’s commitment to investing in Malawi’s young people and promoting sustainable livelihoods. He stressed the need to equip youth with relevant and market-responsive skills that can help close the widening gap between the number of young people entering the labour market and the limited opportunities available in the formal sector.
Through initiatives like this, ADRA Malawi continues to support efforts that empower young people to build resilient livelihoods while contributing to environmental sustainability. By strengthening skills, encouraging innovation, and fostering collaboration among partners, the project is helping pave the way for a more inclusive and sustainable economic future for Malawi’s youth.
