A Beacon of Hope: The Story of Joshua Aamon

Joshua Aamon’s story is a testament to the power of hope, determination, and collective effort. Born and raised in one of Malawi’s bustling urban centers, Joshua grew up amidst significant challenges. Yet, his academic potential shone brightly, and in 2022, he became the first student to benefit from Hope for Change Malawi's flagship project, Achieve Goals Children.

This initiative was designed with a transformative vision: to improve the academic development of children in urban areas, thereby addressing issues such as poverty, juvenile delinquency, early marriages, and the underutilization of young talents. Joshua embodied the very spirit of this mission.

Against the odds, Joshua excelled in his Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations, achieving an impressive 17 points in the 2022/2023 academic year. His dedication and hard work earned him a place at the prestigious University of Malawi, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Biological Sciences—a program that aligns with his dream of contributing to Malawi’s education and health sectors.

However, the journey has not been without hurdles. Joshua is currently closing his first semester, set to end on Friday, December 20. Despite his remarkable achievements, he faces pressing financial difficulties. As he prepares to return home for the break, he urgently needs assistance with transport fees.

Moreover, Joshua has been struggling without a laptop—a critical tool for university studies in today’s digital age. Completing assignments, conducting research, and attending online tutorials have become increasingly challenging for him.

We, at Hope for Change Malawi, are reaching out to well-wishers to rally behind Joshua and support his academic journey. Your assistance can make a significant difference in his life, ensuring that this promising young man does not stumble due to lack of resources.

As the Chief Executive Officer of Hope for Change Malawi, I am honored to share that our friends at Tiyamike Orphan Care and The Needy School have extended a heartfelt invitation for us to visit their community in Mchinji District, T/A Simphasi, Powere Village.
Tiyamike Orphan Care is a remarkable institution providing education and care for over 1,230 children, with more than 600 students currently pursuing their secondary studies. This organization not only offers free education but also runs a feeding program that ensures these children are nourished and supported in their journey toward a brighter future.
However, Tiyamike is facing a critical challenge. Due to a recent increase in enrollment by over 100 students, they are struggling to complete the roofing of newly constructed classroom blocks that will be used to accommodate secondary school learners. The lack of proper infrastructure threatens to hinder the progress of these deserving children, and the organization has humbly requested our assistance in any form.
As we prepare to visit Tiyamike, I would like to extend this invitation to all well-wishers and those with compassionate hearts to join us in supporting this initiative. Any contribution, whether in materials or funds, will make a significant difference in the lives of these children. Together, we can help them complete their new classrooms and ensure their education continues uninterrupted.

LLyson's Story: A Journey of Hope and Determination
Meet Lyson, an inspiring 8-year-old boy from the small village of Ngabu in Chikwawa District, Malawi. Despite his physical disability, Lyson’s spirit shines brightly. He is currently in Standard 1 at Nachipere Primary School, where he’s known as one of the most hardworking and intelligent students in his class.
Although his legs may not allow him to walk, that does not stop Lyson from attending school or dreaming big. Every day, he shows his determination by crawling to school in his worn-out uniform, eager to learn and participate just like his peers. Lyson is a bright and ambitious child whose ultimate dream is to become a doctor, to help others in need and give back to his community.
However, Lyson's journey is far from easy. He is raised by a single mother, who struggles daily to provide for him. With no stable income, she lives in a modest, grass-thatched house and barely makes ends meet. The family’s circumstances make it incredibly difficult for Lyson to pursue his dream, despite his undeniable potential and passion for learning.
Lyson’s story is one of resilience. He enjoys playing with other children and refuses to let his disability define him. But to truly realize his dreams, Lyson needs support—be it for proper medical care, educational materials, or simply the financial means to ensure that his mother can continue to send him to school.
Through Hope for Change Malawi, there is an opportunity to support Lyson. Your help could make the difference between a life of limitations and one filled with opportunities. Lyson is full of hope, and with your support, he could one day achieve his dream of becoming a doctor—a dream not just for himself, but for his mother and the community that has raised him.
