Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC), in partnership with SPRODETA, supported 60 gender-based violence (GBV) survivors from Tas Kyungu, Kilupula and Wasambo in Karonga, with entrepreneurship and soap-making skills.
At MHRRC, we believe that economic empowerment is a critical pathway to healing, dignity, and long-term resilience for GBV survivors. By equipping women with practical business skills, we are supporting them to rebuild their lives and provide for their families.
We remain committed to working with partners, communities, and government structures to ensure that survivors are not only protected—but also empowered.
This initiative is part of the Pamoza Advocacy for Social Justice and Building Resilience for Vulnerable Populations projects, funded by Norwegian Church Aid and DanChurch Aid.

Last week, the Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC) empowered citizen journalists in Karonga with essential skills in storytelling and news article writing. 📝✨
This training aims to strengthen their ability to amplify powerful community voices and highlight real stories of impact and change especially on critical issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), child marriage, and other development challenges affecting their communities.
By equipping local journalists with these skills, MHRRC is helping ensure that community experiences are not only heard, but also influence action, accountability, and positive transformation.
Together, we are building stronger, informed communities where every story matters. 💬🌍 Danchurchaid in Malawi Norwegian Church Aid Malawi

True leadership is not about holding on to power it is about intentionally creating space for others to rise.
Mentoring the next generation is not a sign of stepping aside because one is no longer capable. It is a conscious decision rooted in the belief that there is space for everyone, and that collective effort is what will ultimately advance equality.
Every idea begins as a seed. 🌱 No matter how small, it has the potential to grow and bear fruit that benefits us all. Let us not despise small beginnings or underestimate young leaders. Instead, let us walk alongside them, nurture their ideas, and strengthen the feminist movement together.

Passing the baton means survival for feminist leadership There was something very real in what Emma Kaliya said about “passing the baton.” Not the kind of language we use in conferences for effect, but the kind that comes from years of organising, watching movements grow, stall, and sometimes di...

On Friday, we convened at Chikho Hotel with Norad partners receiving funding through NCADCA Norwegian Church Aid Malawi, and Danchurchaid in Malawiengaging media practitioners on the powerful synergies between GBV prevention and response, fighting inequalities in mining communities, and economic empowerment.
The discussion highlighted how these interconnected issues shape the lives of women, men, and young people and the critical role the media plays in driving awareness, accountability, and change.
We called on media houses and media practitioners to:
• Uphold survivor-centred and ethical reporting on GBV
• Go beyond events to unearth critical and systemic issues fueling inequality and violence
• Use their platforms to amplify community voices and promote justice and accountability
Together, responsible media engagement can accelerate efforts towards safer, more equitable, and economically empowered communities.

🌍 Transformative change begins from within! 💪✨

When communities are given the space to analyse and question their own social norms and power dynamics, they unlock the potential to challenge harmful practices, promote equality, and create lasting change. 💬❤️

Empowered communities don’t just receive change — they lead it. 🌱 Sonke Gender Justice Power to Youth Global PtY Malawi
