“My name is Mellonisa Manda, and I am in Standard 8. I play girls’ soccer, which keeps my body strong and healthy. Playing soccer helps me stay fit and attend school regularly without missing classes. I love girls’ soccer so much because it makes me happy and healthy.”

Mellonisa’s story reflects what the Sports for Change project is all about: empowering girls to stay in school and achieve their dreams through sports.

During our visit to Mkundi Primary School on 8 October 2026 to introduce the Sports for Change project, which is being implemented in partnership with Kick Start Girls Initiative , Mr. Robert Zombe, a Standard 6 teacher and Sports Director at the school, shared his thoughts on the project and its potential benefits for students.

He said: “I am Robert Zombe, a Standard 6 teacher and Sports Director at Mkundi Primary School. We are grateful for the project you have started, and we welcome it because of its benefits. With your visit and mentorship, the students will be motivated and will realise that sports are not just about strengthening their bodies but also offer other benefits, such as socialising with their friends and gaining other benefits in the future.

The exercise books you have given them are a source of encouragement, which is very important. May you continue doing this good work and extend your support to other schools.”

A big thank to all the Teachers in our targeted schools for the support you continue to give us. Our interventions aimed at supporting students would not be successful without your cooperation, commitment, and dedication.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD | 11 OCTOBER 💜

Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, grow, and achieve her full potential. Girls deserve equal rights, quality education, protection, and a voice in decisions that shape their future.

Today, let us stand together to end child marriage, gender-based violence, and discrimination against girls. When we empower a girl, we empower a family, a community, and a nation.

For many girls and young women from Nkhata Bay, where you come from can sometimes determine how far people believe you can go in life. There is a prevailing narrative that pursuing education to university level is less attainable for girls from the district. But Towera Chirwa is challenging that narrative, one girl at a time.

Meet Towera Chirwa, the Child Rights Officer at Together We Rise Foundation, a Bachelor of Social Science in Human Rights graduate who was born and raised in Nkhata Bay.

Today, Towera mentors girls in our target communities in Nkhata-Bay, encouraging them to believe in their potential and dream beyond the limitations society may place on them. By sharing her own journey to university, she demonstrates that being a girl from Nkhata- Bay does not have to limit one's educational aspirations or future opportunities.

Through her work, Towera is helping girls see what is possible when they believe in themselves and are encouraged to pursue their dreams. She is not only challenging stereotypes but also inspiring a generation of girls to rewrite the narrative about what it means to grow up as a girl or young woman from Nkhata-Bay, because where a girl comes from should never determine how far she can go.

Today, 8 October 2026, Together We Rise Foundation in partnership with Kick Start Girls Initiative , visited Mkundi Primary School to launch the Sports for Change Project, an initiative aimed at empowering girls through sport, mentorship, and education.

As part of the launch, we supported 15 girls actively involved in sporting activities with exercise books and conducted a mentorship session focused on encouraging them to believe in themselves, stay committed to their education, and embrace the opportunities that sport can provide.

The girls expressed their gratitude for the support and were excited to be part of this initiative. The teachers also warmly welcomed the project and committed to providing the necessary support to ensure its successful implementation and sustainability.

As we begin this journey, we look forward to seeing the positive impact and lasting difference the project will make in the lives of these girls, both on and off the field.

On 1st October 2026, Together We Rise Foundation under Girls Arise Project, with support from St John Paul College Coffs Harbour, Australia, donated school uniforms to nine girls at Kawalazi Primary School, T/A Kabunduli.

These nine girls are also part of the group of girls we have been mentoring throughout 2026 through our Girls Arise club mentorship sessions, where we have been supporting them with guidance, encouragement, confidence-building, and discussions around menstrual health hygiene, education and their future aspirations.

The donation is part of our ongoing commitment to promoting girls’ access to education in rural Malawian communities. We believe that providing essential school needs such as uniforms, alongside continued mentorship and encouragement, can help remove barriers that may prevent girls from attending and participating fully in school.
