CHILD ADVOCACY CENTRE (CHACE) WELCOMES YOU TO 2026!!
As we begin the Year 2026, Child Advocacy Centre CHACE is pleased to share Key Focus Areas that will guide the Development of Vibrant Child Centred Programs and campaigns in the year 2026.

OUR KEY FOCUS AREAS

1. PROMOTING THE RIGHTS OF ALL CHILDREN
Through Advocacy and Public Education initiatives CHACE is focusing on promoting the Rights of all Children, regardless of Gender, Disability, social background, religion and Tribe. Malawi is a State party to the United Nation Convention on the Rights of a Child which presents about 54 articles on the Rights of Children. The UNCRC has helped Malawi to review and amend certain child related Laws and policies with an aim of promoting the Rights of Children. In Malawi we have the Child Care Protection and Justice Act (2010), The Constitution and other Legal instruments that promote the rights of Children. Despite this, Children still face challenges to attain their Rights mainly Right to Life, Protection, Health and Education due to a number of factors. Therefore CHACE will work with all key institutions and the community at large towards the promotion of the Rights of Children through, Training, Community Awareness & National Dialogues.

2. PREVENTION OF ABUSE & EXPLOITATION
Every day Children in Malawi face Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Child Labour and Neglect. Our public Institutions that respond to Child Abuse are overwhelmed with the increase in cases which has made it difficult to respond effectively when a Child has been abused. We can all agree that our Solution as a country Prevention. We are developing programs and interventions that are aimed at preventing Child abuse and Empowering children to participate in their own protection as well communities to be committed towards creating abuse free zones for Children from household level, community level to National Level.

3. JUSTICE FOR ABUSED CHILDREN
Children that have faced abuse and Exploitation need support through Access to Justice . As a country we have a justice system that is supposed to work in the best interest of children by ensuring speedy Trials in all the Courts and Stiff punishments for perpetrators. Though our work, we have established that in Malawi more children that have faced abuse do not have access to justice in a timely manner due to several challenges. Missing case files, Legal representation, Missing Evidence, delays in Arrests of perpetrators by Police, Corrupt practices in the public institutions among others are the most common challenges that contribute to an ineffective Justice system. We also establish that despite Amendments of punishing Laws, Courts are still lenient in giving punishments to Perpetrators of Abuse against Children.
Through our Victim Advocacy initiatives Currently being developed we will ensure that children that have faced abuse or exploitation effectively Access Justice through our courts including community based mobile courts. We will also focus on National Engagements with law enforcement and Justice institutions to strengthen collaboration and build capacity of officers handling children cases.

4. CHILD MENTAL HEALTH & WELL BEING

CHACE believes Children's mental health and well being matter. Currently Malawi is grappling with su***de cases and Self Harm behaviors which include Drug and substance abuse among Children and youth. We are developing effective programs aimed at promoting Mental health& well being among Children. These programs will also directly address su***de and self harm behaviors among Children in Malawi through, Awareness & Education, Mental health services, Community Engagement, Media Campaign and Parental engagement.

5. EMPOWERMENT THROUGH EDUCATION & SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
CHACE is developing a vibrant Empowerment program targeting Children that have faced abuse and those at risk of facing abuse through Education, Skills Development and Economic Empowerment
We aim to empower children by provision of Learning materials for Education, A bursary program and Skills development.

6.PROMOTING CHILDREN'S TALENTS
Through sports, music and other talents we are developing programs aimed at promoting Children's Talents by providing a platform for them to showcase their talents and innovative ideas.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!!!!
Child Advocacy Centre wishes to bring to the attention of Malawi Police service , Malawi Human rights Commission through the Child rights directorate, The Honorable Minister of Gender madam Mary Navicha, the Independent complaints Commission (ICC) fellow child rights organizations and the general Public what has transpired in area 25. We received a report from our community volunteer that a 12 year old girl in area 25 has been sexually abused by her step father, A 39 year old Binisoni malino from Waya Village, T/A Khongoni Kasiya (Lilongwe).
From the reports we have gathered from the mother of the victim after a prompt visit to her home on 10th November, 2025, the young girl has been sexually abused multiple times until the 9th of October when the mother was told by the victim’s s younger sister of what was happening. She quickly rushed to Nsungwi police station where she was told to go to the hospital for medical examination. The Doctors at Kamuzu Central Hospital under One Stop Centre confirmed that indeed the child has been sexually abused multiple times and due the injuries they have recommended an immediate medical procedure to remove her uterus for it is severely damaged. When the mother went back to the Police at Nsungwi, this particular officer demanded money from them to issue a warrant of arrest. She did not have the money and asked still for assistance which the officer denied.
By then the suspect was within the area and if efforts were made they could have arrested him. She later went to Kanengo police station over the issue and was assured that they would support her to ensure the suspect is arrested but days went by with no feedback on the issue. She later went back to Nsungwi Police where faced total intimidation by the officer who handling the issue and other senior officers who shouted at her for reporting the issue at Kanengo. They threatened to tear apart the medical report and discontinue the case. She later went to the Chief within the community to report about this issue but she was not assisted in anyway. She has gone to several offices including the social welfare department at the district Council office and she was told they could not take the child to a safe home because the suspect was no longer within the household and advised that she remained at the house.
OUR IMMEDIATE CALL TO ACTION!
As an organization fully committed to respond to child abuse cases in the country, Child Advocacy Centre is here by
Demanding for the immediate arrest of the suspect by Malawi Police Service
Calling for an immediate investigation of the police officers that failed to discharge their duty
Calling for a Speedy trial of this case and stiff punishment of the perpetrator

Currently our office has partnered with Another Child rights organization who will provide shelter and counseling for the victim after receiving medical assistance at KCH.
We remain committed to ensure that JUSTICE PREVAILS in this case.
