⚠️ Children Are Most Vulnerable When We Least Expect It.

Last week in TA Kaphuka, powerful and honest conversations took place about the realities children face during the rainy and harvest seasons.

Community members shared painful truths: cases of girls being sexually abused due to parental neglect, and increased risks linked to men who travel into communities during harvest periods. Many admitted that while these cases are happening, a lack of skills and knowledge has often left them unsure of how to respond.

But that is changing.

From 16–20 February 2026, World Relief, in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, conducted a 5-day Child Protection Case Management Training for two church networks — Mkhomera and Mothera. The training brought together 40 participants (23 men and 17 women) committed to strengthening child protection in their communities.

“This training has helped me conduct awareness sessions with children and parents on the importance of protecting children,” shared Request Jipias.

Participants were equipped with practical skills to safely, ethically, and effectively manage child protection cases from identifying risks to ensuring proper referrals and case closure. They also strengthened their understanding of how different service providers work together so that no child falls through the cracks.

This training came at the right time. As risks increase during certain seasons, communities now have trained case managers who are ready to act, not just talk.

At World Relief, we believe child protection is urgent. When communities are equipped, children are safer.

As we conclude the ECD refresher training for the 60 caregivers from the Chimbiya and Kaphuka church networks, we celebrate the commitment and growth demonstrated throughout the sessions.

The closing ceremony was graced by the wives of Senior Chief Kaphuka and Senior GVH Kudemera, who applauded the caregivers for their dedication.

On her remarks, Senior C***r Kaphuka's wife encouraged the caregivers to apply their new skills to advance community development through early childhood development and pledged to champion supportive bylaws and organize an open day for local leaders to appreciate the caregivers’ work.

We join and stand together in support of the global call to end all forms of violence against women and girls. There is no excuse for violence.
Break the silence.
Break the cycle.

The VNRMCs in Salima, under the Climate Just Communities project, are making steady progress in raising seedlings.

At Mawala Village, GVH Phaka, one of the VNRMCs has grown both fruit and natural trees in their nursery, including masau, mtangatanga, and kasiyasi seedlings.

They plan to transplant these seedlings; both fruit trees into orchards and natural trees into their nearby protected forest. Over time, these efforts will expand the forest and provide fruit, shade, and other benefits for the community.

Our youth in VET programs at There is Hope, Dowa, are this week participating in training on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), and the Complaints and Feedback Mechanism (CFM).

The training is aimed to equip them with the knowledge and skills to recognize and respond to abuse while also showing them how to safely report concerns and provide feedback through the complaints and feedback mechanism.

By equipping young people with these tools, we are supporting them to protect themselves, support peers, and strengthen their communities for everyone.

In Dowa, hope takes the shape of young hands learning and creating. Our youth at There is Hope, currently undergoing vocational training, took their plumbing lessons beyond the classroom, rolling up their sleeves to install a sink from start to finish.

A heartfelt thank you to ENA Switzerland for supporting their journey and helping dreams take root.
