The William Stewart Foundation.

The William Stewart Foundation. The William Stewart Foundation, in Ibuluma, Northern Malawi, is a NGO with charitable status formed in 2017. Where there was sadness, there is now joy and hope.

In 2018 the build of the Foundation's Resource Centre began; bricks were handmade and fired in enormous kilns. Latrine blocks, kitchen/stores, a skills shed and library have been erected. When it was built, we visualised that there would be perhaps in excess of 200 children who would benefit. In fact, within a year, the numbers rose and greatly exceeded that speculative figure. Regularly there are

600-700 children, many of whom walk long distances across rough terrain. They want to learn; they want to have fun; they want to be fed. That lunch, in so many cases, will be the only square meal of the week which they eat. If maize is in short supply, and/or the price is too high for ordinary families to afford the staple food, then they will go without – it’s as simple as that. We now have electricity - the first in the area to light up Ibuluma - and our own water supply. There are fields with maize and groundnuts which, each year, have produced abundant crops. We have vegetable gardens; fruit orchards; a goat herd and a chicken flock. Although the emphasis is on the children, nobody in the community is neglected. The elderly are visited on outreaches and anyone within the community who is in need knows that they are welcome at the Centre. Changing Lives Malawi www.changinglivesmalawi.com is the U.K. charity that raises funds and awareness for us. They also help with our child sponsorship programme. Having a UK charity proved of great benefit in other ways, too: making it easier for donors to give; gift aid; applications to funders; facilitating the programmes the Foundation wishes to implement. There is still much to do, but the acorn is growing into the oak tree - the original vision of William and Levison.

William Stewart Foundation, a charitable non-profit organisation, has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing hope and a brighter future through education and sustainable development in Chitipa.

Speaking during a District Executive Committee (DEC) meeting to introduce a new project, the foundation’s Executive Director, Levison Mlambya, highlighted the organisation's dedication to supporting the community.

Mlambya stated that their primary goal is to ensure orphans and vulnerable children have access to quality education, as the organisation has constructed a free secondary school at Ibuluma, in the area of Senior Chief Mwenewenya, where students also receive free meals.

The newly appointed District Commissioner for Chitipa, Charles Mhone, commended the foundation’s efforts. He noted that the initiative aligns with the government's vision of providing free secondary education and calls for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to improve the livelihoods of people across the district.
