The Youth Coalition for the Consolidation of Democracy is a registered non-profit organization with the government of Malawi dedicated to human rights and child protection. We work in cooperation with the regional courts, prisons, police stations, schools, and community leaders chiefly in the following areas:
- Child Protection (Conducting crime and trafficking prevention programs)
- Access to E
ducation (Sponsoring school fees and supplies, especially for street children, orphans, and girls)
- Youth and Women's Empowerment (Keeping girls in school through female teacher trainings and sanitation programs)
- Skills Development for Youth and Rehabilitation of Youth Involved in Crime (Visiting prisons and conducting life skills trainings for youth in the prison)
- Community Outreach to End Child Marriages (Involving the police to uphold the existing laws against early marriages)

Youth Coalition for the Consolidation of Democracy (YCD) registered with the Registrar General under the Trustees Incorporation Act of 1962 of the Laws of Malawi (CAP 5:03) registration number TR/INC/5854 is a non - partisan and non - profit making youth organization initiated in October 2012 and registered in 2013. YCD is also registered with the Council for the Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA), registration number C1078/2017 and with the NGO-Board of Malawi registration number: NGO/L/17/027. YCD an umbrella organization of 42 youth organizations/CBOs is currently working in eight (8) districts in Malawi (Chikwawa, Nsanje, Thyolo, Mulanje, Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Blantyre and Zomba) and has its Registered Office at Nchalo in Chikwawa District, Malawi, Sub Saharan Africa.
YCD BOARD OF TRUSTEES: YCD has a Board of six members of different professional backgrounds responsible for providing technical expertise to the Management. Specifically, the board supervises all the financial management of the projects, evaluate projects’ activities and provide professional backups, hire project support staff according to Personnel Policies, receives project related reports as required in the grant agreement and submit them to the board and other relevant stakeholders.
YCD SECRETARIAT: YCD secretariat at Nchalo in Chikwawa district, head by the Executive Director is responsible for the daily implementation of the organization’s projects. YCD aims at civic engagement in promoting children, youth and women participation/representation in democratic governance, Economic empowerment, Child protection, Sustainable livelihoods, Climate change, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Cross - cutting issues which include HIV/AIDS, SRHR, Gender and the Environment (addressing issues of deforestation and sustainable land management) in the districts of Chikwawa, Nsanje, Thyolo, Mulanje, Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Blantyre and Zomba where it is currently operating.
YCD VISION: A Malawian society where the vulnerable children, youth and women are protected and empowered; where governance is increasingly INCLUSIVE, ACCOUNTABLE and RESPONSIBLE to citizens; and RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP through promotion of active children, youth and women participation/representation.
YCD MISSION: To protect and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable children, youth, women and disadvantaged groups through education, training, mobilization, economic empowerment and participation
YCD STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
Child Protection, Child Crime Prevention, Rehabilitation and Awareness Building, with a particular focus on issues regarding the following: • Child marriages, Child labour, Human trafficking, Street children; and Children who are in conflict with the law and those at a special risk of falling in conflict with the law
To empower young people with knowledge and information on HIV/AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and services.
To promote, secure and ensure equitable access to and control over land for vulnerable children, youth and women.
Youth and women Empowerment through organized activities that ensure that the youth and women in Malawi are actively engaged to promote, protect and defend human rights.
