June was a month of life-changing impact at BICO. WE SUCCESSFULLY PERFORMED 55 SIGHT RESTORING EYE SURGERIES AND CORRECTED REFRACTIVE ERRORS FOR 433 PATIENTS, helping hundreds regain clearer vision and renewed hope.

Every surgery and every pair of corrected eyes reflects our unwavering commitment to transforming lives through excellence in community eye health.

We are proud of this remarkable milestone, and even more inspired to continue restoring sight, empowering communities, and creating brighter futures.

RESTORING SIGHT AND STRENGTHENING SKILLS.

Since 2023, the Blantyre Institute for Community Outreach (BICO), with support from ESCRS, has been empowering cataract surgeons across Malawi through refresher trainings, mentorship, equipment support, and professional development opportunities.
This week, Nkhoma Mission Hospital is hosting cataract surgeons from across the country for another intensive refresher training aimed at improving the quality and safety of cataract surgery services.

The impact is already being felt, with patients in Malawi's Central Region benefiting from improved eye care services and renewed access to sight-restoring surgery.

Together, we are building a stronger eye health workforce and a brighter future for thousands of Malawians.
