INCOS INTEGRATES SOCIAL AND BEHAVIOR CHANGE APPROACHES FOR MINDSET CHANGE DURING OXFAM’S ENDING CHILD MARRIAGES AND ELECT HER AND RETAIN HER CAMPAIGNS.

Using Arts and Theatre as part of Integrating Social & Behavior Change (SBC) messaging for mindset change; the Initiative for Community Development Services (INCOS) collaborated with OXFAM during the Ending Child Marriages and Elect Her and Retain Her Campaigns in Mwanza and Mulanje districts.
Using a mix of Education and Entertainment (Edutainment) approach; INCOS performed an interactive drama piece with an aim to:-

Raise awareness on the September 2025 General Elections. Promote the participation of women, youth and persons with disabilities in leadership positions. Profile female and youth aspiring and incumbent members of parliament and ward councilors in the forthcoming polls. Promote school retention and readmission for girls and vulnerable learners. Championing education, the ending child marriage campaign, and ending violence against women and girls.

These community events were hosted by Hon. Joyce Chitsulo of Mwanza West Constituency and Hon. Naomi Phiri of Mulanje South East Constituency with the support from OXFAM in Malawi under the European Union in Malawi ‘Promoting Gender Transformative and Youth Inclusive Democracy’ project.

INFORMATION DISSEMINATION AND STRENGTHENING PREPAREDNESS TO RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES IN BLANTYRE.

As part of Integrating Social & Behavior Change (SBC) and Risk Communication & Community Engagement (RCCE) Approaches in Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Health Emergency Response; the Initiative for Community Development Services (INCOS) is collaborating with Red Cross Malawi on SBC and RCCE component of the DRM project being implemented in both Blantyre Urban and Blantyre Rural.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Malawi government, FAO, WFP, EU and Danish Red Cross. INCOS is carrying out information dissemination activities contained in the Contingency Plans that were developed by the DRM committees in Ndirande Gamulani Ward and Chilobwe Kajombo ADC in the Traditional Authority Kapeni.

These contingency plans for both Gamulani Ward and Kajombo ADC describe the two areas as being very prone to disasters like prolonged dry spells, Gusty Wind, Fall Army worms, Cholera, New castle disease and Floods. These hazards cause damage to houses and property including loss of lives.
INCOS is carrying out mass community campaign to disseminate messages and strengthen preparedness among community members to respond to emergencies. In this regard, INCOS is using TfD model and devised on an interactive drama piece to let people know how to prepare, mitigate and respond to disasters.
