We recently conducted a Self-Advocacy Training for persons living with epilepsy and their caregivers in our project impact area of Traditional Authority Tsabango, Lilongwe District.

This training aimed to empower participants with the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to effectively advocate for their rights, access essential services, and actively participate in decisions that affect their lives.

Caregivers were also equipped with practical tools to provide informed support while promoting independence and dignity.
By strengthening self-advocacy, we are fostering more inclusive communities where persons with epilepsy are heard, respected, and supported.

On 11–12 March 2026, the Epilepsy Warriors Foundation conducted a two-day self-advocacy training in Blantyre, bringing together 30 participants (16 women and 14 men), including persons with epilepsy and their guardians.

The training aimed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to self-advocate, reduce epilepsy-related stigma in their communities, and promote their inclusion in government programmes and services. Participants also learned about their rights under the Persons with Disabilities Act 2024, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the African Disability Protocol. The sessions were enriched by contributions from Innocencia Mbewe, MACODA Rehabilitation Officer.

As a key outcome, participants developed a one-month advocacy plan and formed a new support group in Chileka, demonstrating a strong commitment to promoting inclusion and reducing epilepsy-related stigma in their communities.
