Imagine the scene: a husband and wife (Mr Steve Mbamba Jnr and Mrs. Elizabeth Mbamba) marking their 10th donation side by side — a decade-long commitment to saving lives. This time, though, it’s even more special. Their son (Wongani Mbamba), stepping up for the very first time, joins them. Three family members, three chairs, three arms extended — united by compassion and courage.
The parents’ consistency shows a deep-rooted belief in giving back, while the son’s first donation symbolizes a new generation carrying forward the torch of kindness. It’s not just about blood; it’s about legacy, community, and hope. This family’s act becomes a powerful reminder that ordinary people can make extraordinary differences.
It’s almost poetic: the parents marking their 10th milestone, the son beginning his journey at number one. Together, they embody the cycle of giving — seasoned donors inspiring fresh ones.

In the just ended week, Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) through its Lilongwe Centre conducted a series of Blood Donation open days in some areas in Dowa and Ntchisi Districts.

In five days, the exercise yielded a total of 644 units of blood from a target of 500 units. This represents an achievement of 129 percent.

Below is the breakdown

Nambuma: 162 units
Mponela: 157 units
Madisi: 145 units
Dowa Boma: 98 units
Ntchisi Boma: 82 units

We are forever grateful for the people from these areas for their altruistic act of donating blood and mobilising others to do the same

Ephraim Kajani, is not only an employee at Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS) Mzuzu Centre but also a dedicated blood donor who has donated blood 65 times. For Kajani blood donation is a way of giving thanks to God for all the blessing he has received in his lifetime.
“God blessed each of us with the gift of life and the privilege of having enough blood to share. I believe the best way to thank him is by helping those in need through blood donation. While people give thanks in different ways, I choose to help in saving lives through blood donation,” he said.
He further encouraged fellow donors to continue saving lives and called out for those who have not yet started donating blood to start donating blood.
Let’s unit and Save Lives through Blood Donation. Every donation has the potential of saving up to three lives.
