This week, together with the Chiradzulu DHO, we have trained 20 Village Health Committee members and HSAs on Community Event Based Surveillance (EBS) in Chiradzulu, equipping them to detect and report public health risks early.

The training aimed to strengthen frontline health workers ability to identify and report signals such as unusual illness, disease outbreaks, deaths, and other events that may pose a public health risk.

By strengthening the capacity of frontline health workers, we are helping communities detect health threats early, report them promptly and take timely action.

On 14 August, the IsraAID Malawi team came together for a team-building workshop as we reached the midpoint of the year.

The workshop provided an opportunity to reflect on the milestones we have achieved so far, look at our progress against our goals and discuss our strategy for the months ahead. It was also a space for teams to share updates, ask questions and strengthen our understanding of where we are heading as an organization.

Taking time to pause, reflect, and realign helps us move into the second half of the year with renewed focus, shared purpose, and a stronger sense of teamwork.

In Phalombe, TA Nazombe, access to a reliable water source has opened new opportunities for community members to improve their livelihoods. For Clement, the treasurer of the Japana Borehole Water User Committee (WUC), the repaired borehole has become more than just a source of water; it has become a tool for food security and income generation.

Clement who joined the Water User Committee in 2025. Along with Moses, a fellow WUC member, they have been using the borehole to irrigate a vegetable garden near the borehole.

โ€œI was motivated to start farming vegetables because we have a water source close to our garden. I no longer need to buy vegetables when I can grow them myself,โ€ Clement shared.

Using water from the borehole, Clement and Moses grow tomatoes, r**e, and mustard vegetables. Their produce not only improves their household nutrition but also provides an opportunity to earn additional income.

โ€œBoth Moses and I are very happy to have this borehole close to our farm. It makes irrigation easy. We can sell the vegetables and also incorporate them into our meals, which helps us stay healthy,โ€ Clement said.

For Clement and Moses, improved access to water demonstrates how WASH interventions can go beyond basic needs to create opportunities for economic empowerment and improved nutrition.
