On 30 May 2026, IsraAID Malawi joined the national commemoration of the International Day of Families 2026 under the theme “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing". The event was led by the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare

The event highlighted the critical role families play in nurturing, protecting, and supporting children, while raising awareness of the inequalities that continue to affect family wellbeing and children's futures. The commemoration also emphasized the need to strengthen family and community-based care systems to prevent child-family separation and support vulnerable children, including those who are street-connected.

As part of commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Day under the theme “Menstrual Health and Dignity for All: Our Right, Our Future,” trainings on reusable sanitary pad making were conducted for Mother Care Group representatives and School Health and Nutrition (SHN) teachers from Chawe, Nzati, Malavi, Kanje, and St. Theresa Primary Schools.

The training was carried out in coordination with the Chiradzulu District Health Office and the Education Department to equip participants with skills and knowledge that they can pass on to girls in schools. The initiative aims to promote menstrual hygiene management and support girls to manage their menstruation with dignity, confidence, and improved school attendance.

After rehabilitating non-functional boreholes, IsraAID conducts training for water user committees that includes an operational fundraising component through gardening. This initiative helps generate funds for the maintenance of the boreholes. Our WASH team recently conducted follow-ups to Water User Committees in Phalombe, with a specific focus on their agricultural activities.

IsraAID is closely monitoring the growing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda and mobilizing emergency support for affected communities.

Our long-term team in Uganda will strengthen prevention measures with hygiene supplies, protective equipment, and health information for displaced families near the southwestern border while we assess additional needs with partners in the DRC. More details to come.
