As Ramadan comes to a close, we wanted to thank everyone that donated to the food drive in Malawi. With your help we raised USD $20,355 and were able to support 2,528 families across Malawi. Our teams delivered 202,250 meals with your donations!!

This was a part of a larger effort with our long standing partners Road To Relief and others. Combined we supported close to 12,000 families and delivered almost 1 million meals. This is the highest number of households we have ever reached in the many years that we have been doing this!

The distributions primarily targeted rural communities where access to food is particularly challenging. We went to Bangula, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Ntaja, Zomba, Makwasa, Domasi, Mulanje, Mangochi, Lunzu, Lirangwe, Thyolo, Chigumula, Phalombe, Monkey Bay and Salima.

Many families had exhausted their supplies by this stage and were waiting for the next crop in late March or early April. These meals were a lifeline.

Thank you again! In the coming weeks we hope to start building water wells again and have a few other projects coming up.

Yesterday, Banja Umodzi, along with our local partners including Road To Relief, made our second delivery of food packs (20kg Ufa/maize flour and 20 packets of soya beans) to 1060 families in Lirangwe in an area known as PA 17. This is an area of deep need about an hour from the city of Blantyre. Our coalition has now delivered food to almost 2,000 families just as Ramadan is starting.

Inshallah, we hope to continue making deliveries in the next few weeks until mid-March or so.

This week, Banja Umodzi, along with its local partners in Malawi, delivered its first Ramadan food distribution to the East Bank village communities near Chikwawa. A 15 ton truck made the 1.5 hour journey from Blantyre. The East Bank communities are usually overlooked because the area is often inaccessible. They suffer from severe drought and flooding with land that is not very fertile. Our delivery had to be closer Chikwawa this time because the bridges to cross the river were broken. Temperatures during the delivery were around 40 degrees Celsius, almost 104 degrees Fahrenheit, a regular occurrence in these parts. Over 950 families received packages in this delivery! The packages included 20kg of maize flour and 20 packets of soya beans (a main source of protein) and will last a family of four almost 20 days.

So far, we have raised close to USD $18,000 for this effort through the generous contributions of our donors, which will allow us to support almost 2,000 families. As always, 100% of our donations go directly to those in need - we cover all the transportation, labor and administrative costs ourselves. When combined with our various charity partners, we hope to reach 8,000 families in Ramadan. Our next delivery is scheduled for this coming Tuesday. Banja Umodzi will continue to take donations until March 9, 2026. Donations can be made via Venmo/PayPal () or Zelle ([email protected]). ACH transfer directly to our bank is also possible, please email [email protected] for more details.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone that has contributed so far!
