At FOAS we are in full support of ACT Ubumbano 's statement

The team at ACT Ubumbano is worried about the dangerous anti-migrant mobilisation happening in South Africa right now, and has pledged to collaborate with others who refuse to target poor and vulnerable people as the cause of the country’s problems. ACT Ubumbano is committed to the dignity of every human being, and rejects the simplistic scapegoating of migrant and refugee communities.

The "We Have to Know"

Disabled Women in Africa - DIWA

For women and girls with disabilities, social protection is more than financial support, it is about dignity, independence, inclusion, and equal opportunities. Inclusive social protection helps reduce poverty and strengthens resilience to crises

As we advocate for disability-inclusive social protection systems across Africa, we call on governments, development partners, and communities to ensure that social protection policies and programmes are accessible, responsive, and designed with the meaningful participation of persons with disabilities.

🎬 There’s Still Time to Make a Film! 🎬

Entries for the 2026 Festival close on 1 July — and if you’ve been thinking about entering, this is your sign to start. Anyone in the world can enter.

Don’t let the calendar fool you. Some of our most memorable and award-winning films have been conceived, shot, and edited in as little as 24 hours. A great story, a passionate team, and a willingness to give it a go can be all you need.

Now is the perfect time to reach out, collaborate, and bring people together. Whether you're a filmmaker, actor, writer, editor, student, community group, or someone with a story to tell, there are people out there looking for creative partners right now.

🎥 Find a collaborator.
🎥 Share your idea.
🎥 Pick up a camera.
🎥 Make something meaningful.

The most important thing isn't having a huge budget or months of production time — it's taking the first step.

Entries close 1 July.
There’s still time. Your story could be the one we’re celebrating this year.

Thank you ACT Ubumbano, we are amongst the Malawi organisations.

The Solidarity Support Facility exists to support community action, and after six years its popularity is a testament to the agency of people who refuse to do nothing. This year we introduced an updated online platform to manage the process, and as with all automated processes some glitches have occurred. Nevertheless, we were able to allocate ZAR1,562,000 in grants to 71 organisations in 9 Southern African countries. We received 200 applications, and in the spirit of rigour and fairness invited external reviewers to help make the difficult decision to spread a limited budget to as many partners as possible.

All applicants who completed the entire application process should have been informed of the final decision by now.

FOAS is deeply grateful to ACT Ubumbano for selecting us among the successful recipients of the 2026 Solidarity Support Facility grants across Southern Africa. We are proud to be one of the supported organisations from Malawi following the successful implementation of our 2024 YETO Project - Youth and Elderly Together.

This support strengthens our continued commitment to intergenerational solidarity, cultural heritage preservation, social justice, and climate resilience in vulnerable communities.

Thank you ACT Ubumbano for believing in community-led action and people-driven change across Africa. 🤝🌍

AND Many thanks to NOVA Employment & Focus on Ability Short Film Festival for being the first to entrust FOAS in changing lives of the marginalised in Malawi through disability inclusion since 2016.
