Youth Activists Initiative Organisation YAIO has been implementing HIV/AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights Project in Blantyre specifically in South Lunzu, Chirimba and Chilomoni Education Zone for the past three years.

As part of the project, the organization has been carrying out different activities to achieve its goals.

Today, YAIO conducted end of project review meeting to share lessons and experiences from the three-year journey.

The meeting brought together different stakeholders, including representatives from Blantyre City Council, community leaders/influencers, and project beneficiaries to reflect on the impact and lessons learned throughout the project.

Today, YAIO took the community sensitization campaign to Sigelege in Chilomoni, Chirimba, Mbayani, and Kameza. The focus was on raising awareness against substance abuse, early marriage, unwanted pregnancies, HIV/AIDS prevention, child abuse, and more.

Stakeholders in attendance included the Ministry of Education, the Police Service, the Ministry of Health, the Blantyre District Youth Office, and YAIO, all joining forces to engage with the community.

Adding to the energy, Ching’aning’ani and Giling’ande brought edutainment to the sessions, while interactive question-and-answer segments gave the audience space to engage directly.

We also distributed the Youth Talk magazine and the Moyo Wanga Kuyambira Pano booklet.

Today, we were at Namatete Primary School where we conducted a Young People and Adult Forum. Several issues affecting the area were raised including the rising number of shabbins which is affecting school children, School dropouts and inadequate security among others. During the Forum, duty bearers agreed to join forces in bringing sanity in the area inorder to protect young people. The meeting has been a great success as it brought different duty bearers together for one common good.

We are at Makalanga Primary School today where we are holding a community sensitization campaign. In this campaign we are addressing different issues like premarital relationships/ s*x high rate of theft and school drop outs around the community. Supervision and monthly visits today reached youth clubs and youth‑focused organizations doing remarkable work. The engagements included Kameza Youth Club, Likhubula Youth Club, Umodzi Youth Organization, Tiphaso Youth Club, and Bwalo La Ana Youth Active Community Organization (BLAYACO), l members of the Kabula Youth Network. We also visited Machinjiri Youth Organization, which is part of the Machinjiri Youth Network.

These visits are part of the HIV prevention project, supporting youth clubs and organizations to deliver awareness, education, and community action.

Today, together with officers from the Blantyre District Youth Office, we conducted supervision visits across Chilomoni.

We engaged with youth clubs including Born to Achieve, Rise and Shine, Girls Arise, and the Christian Welfare Organization.

These visits are part of our HIV prevention project, supporting youth clubs to deliver awareness, education, and community action that helps protect young people and strengthen the fight against HIV.

Today, we made follow-ups to Careforward and Chilomoni Youth Clubs to appreciate their work towards the fight against HIV and AIDS. Today, Youth Activists Initiative Organisation (YAIO) brought together young people and adults at Makalanga Primary School to openly discuss issues affecting youth.

In attendance were learners (including members of the Tikambilane School Club), mother groups, social welfare officers, Blantyre District Youth Office, police, teachers, parents, transitional leaders, and YAIO representatives.

Key concerns raised included rising school dropouts, teen pregnancies, early marriages, and exposure to explicit content through video showrooms and game rooms. Parents and leaders also highlighted challenges such as youth smoking chamba, drinking alcohol, and showing lack of respect for elders.

Among the suggested solutions were the establishment of bylaws and encouraging young people to join youth clubs.
