ππΎββοΈ Athletics Development of National Sports Systems β Official Launch (2026β2027)
Today marked the successful launch of the Athletics Development of National Sports Systems coaching course, a significant step forward in strengthening athletics in Malawi.
The event was graced by the Guest of Honour Minister of Youths and Sports Alfred Gangata alongside the Vice President of the Malawi Olympic commetee Major Gen Kakhuta Banda.
This program, funded through Olympic Solidarity via the Malawi Olympic Committee and implemented by , brings together 40 coaches (both male and female) from across the country. Regional coach facilitators led key discussions focused on improving athletics development nationwide.
Key highlights:

β’ Strengthening grassroots development by training coaches in all districts
β’ Equipping coaches with knowledge to nurture athletes from beginner level to elite performance
β’ Emphasizing discipline, hard work, and long-term investment in athlete development
β’ Calling for continued government and ministry support to help Malawi achieve international success and win medals
This one-year program (April 2026 β April 2027) is a strategic investment in building a strong foundation for athletics in Malawi. Coaches remain the backbone of athlete success, with the power to shape talent and transform the future of the sport.
