In a bid to expand its membership, MUFIS organized a meeting with the Msekele Support group, hailing from Dyeratu in Chikwawa district, to discuss the benefits of joining the Malawi Union for Informal Sector.

The main agenda of the meeting was to familiarize attendees with the organization's purpose, functions, and the value proposition offered to its members.

Looking forward to having all these people on board and work together dealing with challenges they face as informal economy workers.

In a significant move to empower African youth, StreetNet International hosted a groundbreaking international workshop in Benin, attracting 20 young leaders from across the continent to explore ways to strengthen their involvement in the informal economy.

Nellie Nyirenda reflected on her experience at the Youth in Action Workshop in Benin, stating, "Despite our differences and language barriers, we formed strong bonds and learned valuable lessons from each other." The workshop took place from 23rd to 26th March 2026.

📰 Our StreetNet Media Network keeps growing stronger.

As part of our capacity-building programme for street and market vendor communicators, we had the privilege of exchanging with journalist Anne Pinto-Rodrigues on how to tell labour stories in ways that attract journalistic attention and influence public debate.

The focus of the session:
• identifying compelling narratives rooted in workers’ lived experience
• framing labour struggles for broader audiences
• ensuring visibility of organising, victories and demands
• strengthening ethical and accurate reporting of informal economy issues

The StreetNet Media Network is building a global cohort of media activists — vendors who report from their own workplaces, document rights violations, and amplify workers’ voices across borders.

✊ When workers master the tools of communication, we shift who gets heard — and who gets ignored.
