Today, we trained representatives from 15 youth organisations from Chirimba, Ndirande, and Bangwe in Blantyre District as Anti-Femicide and Anti-Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Champions with sponsorship from the CSP Solidarity Fund.

These young leaders are now equipped with the knowledge and skills to raise awareness, challenge harmful social norms, support survivors, and mobilise their communities to prevent violence against women and girls.

This training marks another important step in building safer communities where every woman and girl can live free from fear and violence. Together, we are creating a powerful network of local champions committed to ending femicide and GBV.

Last week, we had a wonderful time visiting our partners at CEDOVC Orphanage in Namiyango, Blantyre. It was especially heartwarming to hear that several of the children achieved outstanding results in their end-of-year examinations.
Nothing brings us greater joy than seeing children excel in school. Their success is a powerful reminder that investing in education today is investing in a brighter future for our country. We are proud to support these young learners as they grow into the brilliant leaders, innovators, and changemakers of tomorrow.

Connecting GBV survivors to comprehensive health care and victim support services through the Chikwawa District Hospital One-Stop Centre under the Mudzi Wotetezeka Project. We strengthen referral pathways by ensuring that survivors of gender-based violence are promptly linked to medical treatment, psychosocial counselling, legal assistance, police services, and case management through the One-Stop Centre.
Community GBV monitors help in identifying survivors, provide psychological first aid, facilitate confidential referrals, and follow up to ensure survivors receive quality, survivor-centred care while maintaining dignity, confidentiality, and safety.

Training of Anti-Gender-Based Violence Community Monitors at Bereu Camp, Chikwawa District

Pride Initiative conducted training for Anti-Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Community Monitors at Bereu Camp in Chikwawa District under the Mudzi Wotetezeka (Safe Villages) project. Chikwawa is one of Malawi's districts most vulnerable to annual flooding, leaving many families displaced and increasing protection risks for women and girls.
During emergencies, women and girls are disproportionately affected by gender-based violence, including sexual exploitation, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse. Many survivors are unaware of available grievance and reporting mechanisms, limiting their access to timely protection and support services.

The training equipped community monitors with knowledge and skills to identify, prevent, document, and safely refer GBV cases while raising awareness of survivor-centred approaches and available reporting channels. By strengthening local community structures, the project aims to improve access to protection services, promote accountability, and create safer spaces for women and girls in flood-affected communities.

Every year floods hit differently, and the 2025/2026 rainy season brought a different story to people of Namicheni, T/A Lundu in Chikwawa District. Many houses were washed away, and months after the April 2026 floods, families are yet to recover from the tragedy with some having nowhere to return to till date.

Below are women and children still resident at Namicheni flood displacement camp with nowhere to return to, surviving on a meal per day and sometimes even sleeping on empty stomachs. They also lack clothing and beddings. They are in dire need of humanitarian intervention.
