The members are separate and autonomous individuals and organisations. All have development of photography and photographers in Malawi as their wider objective, but the nature and scope of their work environments vary widely. This autonomy and diversity is the strength and has the potential to effectively achieve the objectives of the association. Currently, PHOTAMA members include, among others:
• Professional, amateur and beginner photographers with a variety of specialization and experience,
• Educators, students;
• Journalists, videographers
• Institutions eg. Photo studios and equipment suppliers
Membership to PHOTAMA is in four categories. These are:
Full Membership is open to all individuals who apply for membership and who show willingness to adhere to the Code of Ethics for photographers in Malawi. Associate Membership is open to all registered organizations and institutions and businesses which show willingness to adhere to the Code of Ethics for photographers in Malawi. Guest Membership is open to individuals who are temporarily working in Malawi and have shown willingness to adhere to the Code of Ethics for photographers in Malawi. Honorary Membership is accorded to individuals whom PHOTAMA feels have had an outstanding contribution to the development of photography within Malawi. Full Members of PHOTAMA, among others, will have access to: PHOTAMA membership card; regular correspondence regarding upcoming events/meetings, training opportunities, exhibitions, products information, in-house quarterly newsletter; reference resource centre for info on techniques and marketing advice, etc.; and voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). As of 10th September 2010, 78 members have had renewed their PHOTAMA membership for the year 2010/2011.
