Should we use mob justice?
Someone stole our maize. Some people (eye witnesses) have been seing someone who has been trespassing in our garden. We arrested him and brought him before Bangwe Police Station and we have been sent back for lack of evidence. The suspect once told us out beans was not doing well because of the variety and that we need to be spraying pesticides. He is not our advisor or member of Litcheza Sustainable Agriculture Organisation-Lisao and not even a friend. He is garden is several metres from our garden and there is no through passage The officer on duty was busy on her phone/Facebook and asking us unrealistic questions about the law.

Seven people arrested for contravening forest Act in Mzimba

Zenith for Young Women Achievers has established that there are people who are jointly running their charcoal enterprise inside the Maravi forest reserve without authority and supplying other vendors in the district. During our routine patrol Zenith found out that the group had planted one acre of maize inside the reserve. We also found with them dangerous weapons such as axes, panga knives, holes and metal bars. Zenith and members of the community who arrested thought Bangwe Police will take them to court soon to answers charges of; squatting, conveying dangerous weapons into a forest and illegal charcoal production in a protected forest contravening Forest Act under the laws of Malawi. However, nothing happened to the suspect. They are free again.

Pig urine being collected from pigsty. This is a very nutritious for crops. We collect at 20 litres of pig per week. We more pigs, we can produce more to meet the demand of community members interested in buying liquid fertiliser at very low cost. The liquid fertiliser is rapidly used by plants and they produce a bumper harvest.

On November 20, Zenith for Young Women Achievers, in partnership with Litcheza Sustainable Agriculture Organisation (Lisao) hosted a community interface meeting. The event aimed to build resilient communities through safe common approach using Theatre for Development (TFD) to raise awareness about hidden issues affecting women and children.

Several issues were raised, including early marriages, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, and child labor. The meeting not only highlighted these critical issues but also called for immediate action from relevant authorities, such as traditional leaders, to address them.
