Does it feel like no progress in life? Well, you are not alone. It is true that things are getting tough daily but lets share something peculiar this afternoon. I pick some interesting stories of biblical teachings: Moses, Abraham and of course, Joseph.
The journey of Moses and the Israelites at Mount Sinai is a powerful metaphor for the delays we face in life, where progress seems halted, and hope begins to wane. The Israelites, having been freed from the chains of Egyptian slavery, found themselves encamped at the base of the mountain, waiting—waiting for guidance, waiting for direction, waiting for God's voice to move them forward. What should have been a brief sojourn turned into a prolonged stay, a delay that tested their faith and resilience.
This delay, however, was not without purpose. It was a period of preparation, a time of instruction, where God gave them the law that would shape their identity and guide their journey to the Promised Land. Yet, to the impatient heart, it felt like retrogression, a backward step in their journey to freedom.
Consider Abraham, who waited decades for the fulfillment of God's promise of a son. Each year that passed without a child seemed like a step away from the promise, a delay that could have been perceived as a step backward. Yet, in the fullness of time, God intervened, and Isaac was born. Similarly, Joseph, betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery, faced years of delay in prison. What seemed like a period of regression was, in reality, a time of preparation for his eventual rise to power in Egypt, where he would save nations from famine. These delays were not signs of abandonment but were integral parts of God's plan, orchestrating circumstances for a greater good.
In our lives, delays can often feel like stagnation, where dreams are deferred, and progress seems elusive. These periods of waiting can feel like retrogression, pulling us away from our goals and aspirations. However, the biblical narratives remind us that these delays are often divine pauses—moments where God is at work behind the scenes, shaping, molding, and preparing us for the fulfillment of His promises. It is in these moments that our faith is tested and our character is refined, preparing us for the blessings that lie ahead.
Whats relationship here? Just as God intervened in the lives of Abraham, Joseph, and the Israelites, He is ever-present in our moments of delay. We must trust that what appears as retrogression is, in God's timing, a necessary step in our journey. When we find ourselves at the foot of our own mountains, seemingly stuck and waiting, we should call upon God to take charge. For in His hands, delay is never denial—it is the seedbed of divine purpose, where our faith grows and where God's promises are brought to fruition in ways we could never imagine.
Happy afternoon.
