4Hers Project
Her Skills. Her Resources. Her Ideas. Her Potential.
Yesterday, we held a virtual meeting with selected leaders from our Ndirande Support Groups with over 200 single mothers focusing on an important question: How can we empower vulnerable single mothers by harnessing the resources that already exist within their own communities?
This conversation marks the beginning of our 4Hers Project, an initiative by the SME-Org designed to promote community-led economic empowerment.
We believe sustainable empowerment should not always begin with telling women what they need to learn or do. It should begin by listening to them and understanding what they already have. Our support group leaders were encouraged to look within their communities and identify the skills, talents, natural resources, opportunities and existing economic activities available around them.
From there, we can work together to identify gaps, explore opportunities and connect women to the appropriate resources, training, markets, partnerships and support needed to turn existing strengths into sustainable sources of income. We believe that empowerment is not about giving people what we think they need.It is about helping women recognise what they already have and creating pathways for them to build from it.
We are excited to see what our women discover within their communities and, together, turn those discoveries into opportunities.
