HOW MUCH IS A BAG OF CHARCOAL TODAY?🔥

The truth is, charcoal is expensive and you can agree, yet we use it every single day, so sad. 😓

But guess what! there’s a smarter, greener and cheaper way!

🌱 Let’s venture into briquettes, locally known as MIDOLI or ZOUMBA as an alternative for our daily cooking.

Briquettes are made from locally available resources like;

✓Animal wastes 🐄
✓Agricultural residues 🌾 (like maize cobs or rice husks)
✓Saw dust or wood chips 🌳

Why briquettes?

✓Cheaper to produce than charcoal ✅
✓A bag of briquettes costs 3 times less than charcoal ✅
✓Reduces deforestation and fights climate change ✅
✓Creates income-generating opportunities for both youth and women ✅

Today, Smart Vision for Youth had the privilege to attend a Leadership and Mindset Change Training, bringing together club and organization leaders, as well as youth representatives from different backgrounds.

The session focused on empowering young leaders with practical skills and knowledge to enhance their impact in their communities. Participants explored key leadership principles, with a strong emphasis on mindset transformation as a foundation for effective leadership.

Through the training, participants gained valuable insights that will:

• Build confidence in communication
• Promote accountability, transparency and ethical behavior
• Strengthen leadership capacity for sustainable development work

The training was facilitated by distinguished leaders, including the District Youth Officer for Blantyre City, the Executive Director for Concerned Youth Organization and other experienced contributors who shared practical knowledge and real-world perspectives.

A key highlight of the training was the discussion on the National Youth Policy, understanding its provisions and how young people can align their initiatives with it.

Participants also explored how youth-led programs can contribute meaningfully to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Today, Smart Vision for Youth successfully conducted a hands-on juice making training, where learning went beyond theory.

The facilitator guided the process but the trainees themselves actively took part in every production step gaining practical, real-world skills they can use to generate income.

A total of 40 young people benefited from this session, equipping them with survival skills aimed at tackling unemployment and building self-reliance.

At Smart Vision for Youth, we remain committed to empowering young people with practical skills that create opportunities and transform lives.

This is just the beginning, we look forward to reaching even more youth across Malawi in our upcoming training sessions.
