The Executive Director of Child Focus joined nutrition advocates and district leaders at Zembani Lodge for a specialized training on Food Fortification Laws and Guidelines under the FOCUS Project being implement by CSONA.
The training, facilitated by Lifesciences Consult and supported by the European Union, brought together CSOs and District Nutrition Coordinating Committee (DNCC) members to strengthen understanding of mandatory food fortification, enforcement, and infant food safety.

Child Focus Organization is delighted to have collaborated with Better Standard Living Dev. Initiative in soap making training, which we targeted about 50 youths and women in Balaka District.
We believe that concerted efforts in empowering the youths and women in income generative activities is a milestone towards creating a wealthy nation. The participants have successfully acquired skills in soap production and will soon roll out mass production.
The initiative will help them to be financially independent. This is in accordance with Malawi Vision 2063, which aims at among other things, transforming Malawi into a wealthy and self-reliant industrialized upper-middle-income country by the year 2063.
In the meantime, the participants have already formed cooperatives to enable them carry out their businesses smoothly. The training was made possible with financial support from The Sapphire Employability and Wellbeing Academy LTD.

After conducting a baseline survey on the status of Early Childhood Development (ECD) education in the area of Traditional Authority Nkaya in Balaka, we went back to the community to provide feedback on the outcomes of the survey.

Among other things regarding the survey, we found out that there is indeed a very wide gap in as far as provision and delivery of ECD education is concerned. For instance, unavailability of conducive and permanent classroom structures as well of lack of capacity to caregivers seem to be a very big challenge.

However, it is encouraging to note that local chiefs in collaboration with Centre Management Committees (CMC's) have been in the forefront in inculcating a spirit of community ownership of the ECD facilities. They are geared to take part in contributing resources for the enhancement of ECD services in their areas.

We thank the Comic Relief and UK Aid for the Shift the Power programme that has enabled us to have this data.
