Atoll Marine Centre

Atoll Marine Centre Atoll Marine Centre is a unique conservation base in the Maldives running marine conservation programmes and providing environmental education.

https://linktr.ee/atollmarinecentre Atoll Marine Centre is a conservation base situated on the local island Naifaru in Lhaviyani atoll, Maldives. Run by the local NGO Naifaru Juvenile and supported and manned by Atoll Volunteers, it is unique in that it is the only marine conservation initiative of its kind in the Maldives to be run from a local island as opposed to a resort. We are therefore prou

d to be able to incorporate a strong focus on environmental education and community involvement in the running our marine conservation programmes. Our work focuses on inspiring more sustainable practices while running effective conservation initiatives. Our current conservation projects include Sea Turtle rehabilitation and Coral Gardening. The secrets out! The best event of the year, The Six Senses Lhaviyani Turtle Festival will take place on September 11th and 12th this year in Lh. Naifaru!

What started as a local community initiative has flourished into the largest marine conservation and community outreach event in the country! We are proud to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the very first turtle festival in 2016.

If you are part of a school or marine conservation organisation in the Maldives, stay tuned or get in touch for more information!

Whether you are a passionate ocean professional or not, there’s no denying the vital role the ocean plays for each and every one of us. It provides essential ecosystem services as well as fond memories, supports coastal communities and unites marine conservationists from around the globe.🌍

In March 2026, we said goodbye to our Marine Biologist, Iara, after more than a year at AMC.

During her time with us, Iara brought dedication and consistency to her work, leaving a meaningful impact across different areas of the center. She played a key role in developing and leading the outreach program, helping build connections with local communities and inspiring younger generations to care about marine conservation.

Her work was recognized through the SWOT (State of the World’s Sea Turtles) grant in the Behaviour Change category, which allowed her to expand outreach efforts across different atolls in the Maldives, focusing on anti-poaching.

Alongside this, Iara was involved in many aspects of AMC’s work. From turtle care and rehabilitation, to beach clean-ups, Dive Against Debris activities, coral restoration, and supporting communication through social media.

It is not easy to say goodbye, and we are grateful for everything she contributed during her time here. We wish her all the best in what comes next. 🌊🐢
