Yesterday I found a dead cat inside one of the cat shelters near Salman Mosque.
The body was locked inside a cardboard box and left there. Flies everywhere. The cat had already started decomposing. The smell was unbearable.
This was not somewhere hidden. This was next to a mosque. Next to people who come to pray.
Is this what we accept as normal now?
Where is the government? Where is the Ministry responsible for animal welfare? Why are volunteers and small rescue groups left to deal with suffering, disease, and death while authorities look away?
How many more dead cats do we need to see before someone takes responsibility?
This is not just about animals. This is about dignity, accountability, and basic humanity.
The world talks about compassion. Islam teaches mercy. But what mercy is this?
We cannot keep hiding this reality. We cannot keep pretending this is not happening.
Maldives deserves better. The animals deserve better.
