MRC's Regional Manager, North, Ibrahim Mohamed, joined the Maldivian delegation at the Annual Regional Forum on Community Engagement and Resilience: Strengthening Community Health Workforces for Localized Public Health Emergency Management, held from 26–28 August in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Convened by the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office in collaboration with the IFRC, UNICEF, and regional partners, the forum brought together delegations and partners from across the region to strengthen the role of community health workforces in localised public health emergency management.

MRC has launched a Give.Asia campaign for the MRC Nepal Solidarity Fund, allowing contributions to be made by card alongside the existing bank transfer options of MRC

Contributions will be remitted to the Nepal Red Cross Society through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Emergency Appeal, supporting communities affected by the flash floods in northern Nepal.

The Maldivian Red Crescent opens the "MRC Nepal Solidarity Fund" to donate funds to support the response and recovery efforts of the humanitarian crisis in northern Nepal caused by the flash floods of 26 August 2026.

The funds raised will be directed to the Nepal Red Cross Society, whose teams and volunteers are providing First Aid and health support, distributing drinking water and essential relief items, and working to restore access to communities cut off by the floodwaters.

The fund is open from 27th August until 03rd September 2026.

To ensure the direct transfer of funds to the Nepal Red Cross Society, donations are currently being collected in United States Dollars only. Any party able to facilitate the conversion of Maldivian Rufiyaa to United States Dollars is invited to contact MRC in this regard, as such arrangements would enable MRC to open the fund for donations in Maldivian Rufiyaa.

MRC stands in solidarity with the communities impacted by the floods in Northern Nepal, and the Nepal Red Cross Society volunteers and responders working tirelessly in challenging conditions to reach the most vulnerable.

Our thoughts are with all who have been affected by this disaster.

Earlier this month, volunteers of the Maldivian Red Crescent - Gadhdhoo Unit carried out the first Haalu Kihineh elderly wellbeing visits in Gdh. Gadhdhoo, visiting senior citizens in their homes, spending time in conversation and sharing information about MRC and our services.

Our aim through these visits is to strengthen the everyday connections that sustain older persons in their communities, and to ensure they remain seen, valued and included in community life. These activities are part of our Strengthening Community Wellbeing and Social Inclusion in South Maldives Project, delivered with the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives through High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives

Our thanks to the volunteers who carried out these visits, and to the families who welcomed them into their homes.
