Children do not always have the words to express what they need. Sometimes frustration, crying, shouting, or difficult behaviors are their way of communicating a message we may not immediately understand.

When a child struggles to communicate, our role is to look beyond the behavior and understand the reason behind it. By identifying what the child is trying to express, offering support, and teaching alternative ways to communicate, we can help them feel heard and understood.

Every behavior has a message. Let’s respond with patience, compassion, and the right support to help children express their needs safely and confidently.

Changes in routine can feel overwhelming for many children, especially children with autism and other neurodivergent needs. A simple change like a cancelled activity or a different schedule may create feelings of uncertainty, frustration, or distress.

By understanding the reason behind the reaction and providing the right support — such as visual schedules, first-then charts, clear explanations, and preparation for changes — we can make transitions easier and help children feel more secure.

Not every difficult moment is about the change itself; sometimes it is about not knowing what comes next. With patience, consistency, and support, children can learn flexible thinking and coping skills for unexpected situations.

ABA isn't about "fixing" a child, it's about understanding them.

Small changes can make a BIG difference! 💙

Reward positive behavior
Build confidence with small, easy wins
Teach children how to communicate their needs in a way that works for them

Every behavior has a reason. When we understand the "why," we can teach the "how.
