ROTARY CLUB OF FLOREAL
Second Edition of Medical Week (03–08 January 2026)
The Rotary Club of Floréal (RCF) is pleased to announce the successful organisation of the second edition of its Medical Week, held in Mauritius from 03 to 08 January 2026, in collaboration with Narayana Health Centre. Building on the success of the inaugural edition in 2023, this initiative once again demonstrated RCF’s leadership in promoting access to specialised paediatric healthcare in Mauritius.
This Medical Week was initiated, organised, and coordinated by the Rotary Club of Floréal, in close collaboration with Narayana Health Centre and with the valued support of sponsors and partners. It embodies Rotary’s principle of Service Above Self and highlights the impact of community-driven, international medical cooperation. The Medical Week reflects the Club’s enduring commitment to medical excellence, community service, and sustainable impact.
A highly specialised medical team from India, led by the internationally recognised Professor Dr Ashley D’Cruz, travelled to Mauritius to treat complex paediatric cases and perform advanced surgical procedures within public healthcare facilities. Over the course of the week, approximately 120 children were examined, and seven advanced surgical operations were successfully carried out on cases requiring highly specialised intervention.
As part of the programme, Narayana Health also delivered a high-level Continuing Professional Development (CPD) conference entitled “Paediatric Surgery Care: Shaping the Future of Child Healthcare – Robotic and Advanced Surgical Innovations.” Approximately 70 local doctors attended and actively participated. The official programme was chaired by the Immediate Past President of RCF, Mr Sunil Bheeroo, with addresses delivered by the President of the Rotary Club of Floréal, Mr Janesh Dookan, the District Governor, Mr Bernard Leong Son, Professor Dr Ashley D’Cruz and Dr Aadila Issack, Medical Director from Life together. The Club was also honoured by the presence of Honourable Anishta Babooram, Junior Minister of Health & Wellness, who delivered a keynote address and formally declared the conference open.
The Rotary Club of Floréal also acknowledges the invaluable assistance and cooperation of the Ministry of Health & Wellness and regional hospital teams, whose logistical support enabled the visiting specialists to operate effectively within public facilities and work alongside Mauritian healthcare professionals.
Encouraged by the outcomes of both editions, RCF is committed to establishing this Medical Week as a recurring annual initiative, in partnership with reputable international medical institutions, for the continued benefit of children and families across Mauritius. Beyond the treatment of complex cases, the project prioritises skills transfer, clinical exposure, and professional exchange, contributing to the long-term development of paediatric healthcare in the country.
The Rotary Club of Floreal wish to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Professor Ashley D’Cruz and the team of Paediatric Specialists and Consultants namely Dr. Sunil Bhat, Dr. Vinay Chandrashekar, Dr. Sahana Shankar, and Dr. Sapna Raina from Narayana Health Centre, the Ministry of Health & Wellness, all individual and corporate sponsors, and every professional who contributed to the success of this initiative.
The Rotary Club of Floreal sponsored the logistical arrangements for the highly specialised medical team from India including air tickets on economy basis and accommodation. The promotion of child healthcare is central to Rotary’s mission, and the Club is proud to continue delivering on this commitment with integrity, purpose, and measurable impact. The Rotary Club of Floreal would like to convey its sincere gratitude to all members who have contributed to the successful realization of the medical project with special mention to Past President Atish Soodhoo, Past President Akilesh Roopun, Rotarian Hoolass Lochee, Rotarian Shiksha Ramboccus and Rotarian Gervais Fifi.
