Join the following workshops on mangroves on 26th and 27th of this month and discover why these unique ecosystems are so important for the biodiversity of the South East coast of Mauritius. 🌿

Mangroves play a vital role in protecting our coastline, supporting marine life, and preserving the natural balance of our environment. Yet, despite being protected by law, mangroves are still being cut down and damaged.

Through these workshops, we aim to raise awareness, encourage community action, and inspire everyone to help protect and preserve our mangroves for future generations.

Together, we can safeguard one of Mauritius’ most valuable coastal ecosystems. 💚

✨ It is always encouraging to see the next generation engaging with heritage in meaningful ways.

Students from Loreto College of Port Louis, as part of their HSC Travel & Tourism project, drew inspiration from OHF’s work and chose to explore the history and heritage of Mauritius as their focus.

Through their journey, they had the opportunity to discover sites and monuments, engage with intangible cultural practices such as vacoas basket weaving and traditional fishing, and experience the richness of our local delicacies.

We are pleased to share a few moments from their learning experience. 📸

OHF wishes them every success in their endeavours and looks forward to seeing how they carry this awareness of heritage forward.

🌍 World Heritage Day – April 18, 2026

This year’s theme highlights the urgent need to protect heritage in times of conflict and disaster.

Around the world, heritage is being destroyed by war. Closer to us, climate change is putting our own sites at risk through rising seas and stronger natural events. These threats are real—and growing.

OHF believes that heritage must be seen as a whole: places, people, traditions, and nature all connected. Our approach is holistic, integrated, and immersive.

Heritage is not a challenge to manage—
it is an asset to harness.

It helps communities stay strong, adapt, and move forward.

Today, we renew our commitment:
to protect, to share, and to keep our heritage alive.
