The first meetings of the Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill were held around June 1989, when PDG Kailash Ramdenee came personally several tim

es to share Rotary information. We were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes and became the 6th such club in Mauritius, the other existing Rotary Clubs being those of Port Louis Doyen, Port Louis Citadelle, Curepipe and Grand Bay. We are twinned with the Rotary Club of St Pierre/Tampon, Reunion, the Rotary Club of Tamatave, Madagascar and the Rotary Club of Rydalmere, Sydney.

An Evening of Fellowship, Reflection and Celebration

Last night reminded us of what makes Rotary so special—friendship, fellowship, and a shared commitment to service.

We were honoured to welcome Ming Chen, who shared valuable reflections and feedback from the District Conference held in May, giving us much to think about as we prepare for the year ahead.

The evening also marked the presentation of our incoming board, a moment that renewed our enthusiasm and commitment to creating an even greater impact in our communities.

Adding to the joy of the evening, we celebrated the birthday of our dear fellow Rotarian, Manjoo. Thank you, Manjoo, for your infectious energy, friendship, and dedication to Rotary. We wish you a year filled with happiness, good health, and continued success.

Over cheese, wine, laughter, and meaningful conversations, we strengthened the bonds that unite us as Rotarians. Because beyond the meetings and projects, Rotary is about people coming together to inspire, support, and uplift one another.

A beautiful evening that perfectly captured the spirit of Rotary.

🌍 A Proud Moment for Mauritius at the Rotary District Conference 🇲🇺

What an incredible honor and privilege it was to attend the District Conference in Naivasha, Kenya, and to have the opportunity to meet the Rotary International President Olayinka Hakeem Babalola

His inspiring leadership, humility, and vision for Rotary's future left a lasting impression and reinforced the power of Service Above Self.

Adding to this unforgettable experience was the immense pride of being the sole representative of Mauritius during the Flag Raising Ceremony. Standing among Rotarians from across the region and proudly carrying the Mauritian flag was a deeply moving moment, one that symbolized not only my presence but the spirit, commitment, and dedication of Rotarians across Mauritius.

Moments like these remind us that Rotary transcends borders, cultures, and languages, bringing together people united by a common purpose: to create positive and lasting change in the world.

Proud to represent Mauritius. Proud to be a Rotarian. Proud to be part of this global family.

Mental Health Matters: Empowering the Next Generation

What if every young person had the tools to understand their emotions before those emotions overwhelmed them?

What if we taught emotional resilience with the same importance as academic success?

The Rotary Club of Beau Bassin/Rose Hill, in partnership with the Interact Club of Collège de la Confiance, recently conducted a powerful Mental Health Awareness Session for nearly 50 students. Facilitated by Meta Coach Diane Venner, the workshop provided a safe and engaging space for young people to better understand, identify, and manage their emotions.

In a world where increasing numbers of young people are facing anxiety, depression, violence, social pressures, rejection, failure, and even suicidal thoughts, emotional literacy is no longer optional it is essential.

One of the key messages shared during the session was simple yet profound:

💡 There are no "bad" emotions. Every emotion carries a message. What matters is how we recognize, process, and express it.

Through open discussions and practical insights, students learned that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. The initiative also aimed to break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage young people to reach out for help without fear of judgement.

A special thank you to Rotarian Kamini Ramjeet and Rotarian Anubha Bissessur for coordinating this impactful project, and to Headmistress Nathalie Cathian and Club Advisor David for their warm support and commitment to the well-being of their students.

As Rotarians, we believe that building stronger communities begins with nurturing healthier minds.

📌 A question for all of us:

Are we creating safe spaces where our young people feel heard?

When was the last time we asked someone not "How are you doing?" but "How are you really feeling?"

What can each of us do to help remove the stigma around mental health?

Sometimes, one conversation can change a life.

Together, let us continue investing in awareness, compassion, and resilience because every young mind deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Changing lives, one act of kindness at a time.

Yesterday, the Rotary Club of Beau Bassin Rose Hill proudly completed another meaningful humanitarian project under the leadership an mandate of President Dr Arvin Ramchurn through the donation of a specially adapted wheelchair to a brave 7 year old child suffering from spinal issues.

This was not just the donation of a wheelchair it was the result of dedication, teamwork, patience, and compassion. The chair, specially received from Australia, required significant effort and commitment from the team Anubha Somera and Kamini Ramjeet to assemble and adapt it into its final form to meet the child’s specific needs and comfort.

Seeing the smile, hope, and emotion on the faces of the child and family reminded us once again why Rotary serves.

A heartfelt thank you to every Rotarian and every helping hand involved in making this beautiful project a reality. Together, we continue to bring hope, dignity, and support to those who need it most.

A new chapter begins for the youth of tomorrow.

Yesterday marked the official Charter Ceremony of the Interact Club of St Andrew’s School, proudly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Beau Bassin Rose Hill under the leadership and mandate of President Dr. Arvin Ramchurn.

This beautiful milestone reflects Rotary’s continued commitment to empowering young leaders, inspiring service above self, and creating opportunities for motivated youngsters to grow, lead, and make a difference in their communities.

A special mention to our Director of Young Generation, Shalinee Jeerakun, whose dedication and hard work alongside District Interact Chair Leena Ebs made this vision become a reality. Seeing the club officially chartered yesterday was truly a proud and emotional moment for all involved.

To the newly inducted Interactors may this journey shape you into compassionate leaders, strong changemakers, and lifelong ambassadors of service and friendship.

Welcome to the Rotary family.

✨ A Night of Empathy, Music, and Vision Beyond Sight ✨
On Friday, 27 March, the Rotary Club came together to create a truly unforgettable evening a fundraising event dedicated to empowering the visually impaired and blind. It was more than just a dinner; it was an experience that opened our hearts and minds.
Arrival of His Excellency Dharambeer Gokhool the President of the Republic, whose presence honored our mission, the evening was a testament to community, compassion, and commitment.
The night was illuminated by heartfelt musical performances by Nathalie Tong Sam & Caroline Lo Yeung, alongside the incredible talents of ABAIM Group, reminding us that art transcends sight it touches the soul.
The Dining in the Dark experience a powerful moment where guests were blindfolded, guided by care and empathy, and invited to truly see through the eyes of another. Every bite, every gesture, every helping hand spoke volumes about the strength of unity and understanding.
As the lights came back on, emotions overflowed. Guest testimonies, heartfelt speeches, and the fundraising auction highlighted how a community can come together to create real, tangible change. With every item auctioned, every donation made, hope and opportunity were gifted to those who navigate the world without sight.
This was not just an event. It was a movement a reminder that service, compassion, and action can transform lives.
🌟 Together, we are proving that vision is not only what the eyes see, but what the heart believes.
💛 Rotary Club: Lighting the Way, Empowering Lives.
