Ecobrick Mauritius in a nutshell!

What’s an ecobrick?

An ecobrick is a reusable building block created by packing clean, dry and used non-recyclable plastic into a plastic bottle to a set density. Ecobricks raise ecological consciousness and enable individuals, communities and companies to transition from plastic by taking responsibility for our plastic.

To create your ecobrick, you will need:

(1) a straight 1L, 1.5L or 2L plastic bottle, (2) a stick, (3)scissors (to help you cut harder pieces of plastic), and; (4) your used non-recyclable plastic (that you have cleaned and dried)

Then, simply put all the non-recyclable pieces of plastic inside the plastic bottle and keep pushing it from the beginning with the stick. The stick is really important as it removes all the bubbles of air from the bottle, making it hard and dense. Once you have filled your bottle completely, close it with the lid. Well done, you have created an ecobrick!

Or, get your ecobricks collected from one of our ecobrick collector:

(4) Recyclean is a waste management company on the west coast, that collects your recyclables straight from your home. If you are one of their clients, they will pick up your ecobricks as well.

(5) Green Impact is another waste management company in the north of the island, that also collects your recyclable on a weekly basis. If you are one of their clients, they will also collect your ecobricks.

What next?

As soon as we have enough ecobricks, we will start building various objects with it, such as tables, chairs, parks or even perhaps houses for the community. We would also like to encourage the community to get creative and to use their own ecobricks to create various objects.
