🔨⚜️ Venture Scouts at Work! ⚜️🔨

During today’s meeting, our Venture Scouts rolled up their sleeves and continued working on improving the Group’s stores and camping infrastructure under the guidance of our quartermaster.

Their tasks included:
✅ Painting new peg storage boxes
✅ Mounting industrial shelving units
✅ Extending the shelving system in our equipment store

These improvements will help us organise and maintain our camping equipment more efficiently, ensuring that our members have access to better resources and facilities for future activities and camps.

This work forms part of the project “Enhancing Camping Infrastructure for Youth Engagement”, which is being implemented thanks to financial support from Aġenzija Żgħażagħ under the BOOST Scheme.

The Victoria Scout Group would like to express its sincere appreciation to Aġenzija Żgħażagħ for supporting this initiative and helping us provide better opportunities for young people to learn practical skills, teamwork, responsibility, and leadership through Scouting.

Congratulations!
We were there.

On Wednesday 10th June, Victoria commemorates the day when it was officially granted city status.

Group Scout Leader Jesmond Scerri and GSL Emeritus Lorrie Saliba attended the commemorative ceremony held at Independence Square.

During this ceremony, various Victoria residents were presented with awards in recognition for their various contributions.

The Group would like to congratulate Mro Colin Attard and Mro Dr John Galea on their being presented with the Ġieħ il-Belt Victoria Award, the highest honour bestowed by the City of Victoria in recognition of their lifelong efforts in the cultural and musical fields.

The Group would also like to congratulate all the other awardees who whose work, dedication, and achievements have brought honour and distinction to the city and who continue to contribute to its growth and success.

Be Prepared

Training is always ongoing for those at the Victoria Scout Group.

Leaders, Group Council members and some of the older Scouts are presently attending a 2-day Food Handling Course organised by JobsPlus at headquarters. This course will equip them better to handle situations in the kitchen at headquarters, at camp, at home or elsewhere.

Amongst others, the course will deal with the importance and the factors of safety and hygiene in food-related environments, causes of food poisoning and how to avoid them, safe food practices including proper storage, preparation and temperature control, the causes and risks of cross-contamination, pathogenic organisms, food allergies, types and prevention of ‘foreign bodies’ in food and the importance of cleaning, waste disposal and pest control.

This knowledge helps prevent foodborne illnesses, ensuring the safety and well-being of those at the receiving end of the food preparation.

The Group would like to thank JobsPlus for once again providing this course.

Over the past few days, our Venture Scouts have been hard at work building a number of wooden storage boxes that will be used to house new camp pegs recently purchased by the Group.

This initiative forms part of a project funded through the BOOST Scheme by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Aġenzija Żgħażagħ for supporting this project and helping us provide young people with valuable opportunities to develop practical skills, teamwork, responsibility, and other essential life skills through scouting.

We will do our best to care for the environment.

As part of their badgework and the environmental project they needed to create for the Our River Area, the Alpha Cubs, the older Cubs in the Pack, supported by the Cub leaders, took on a very ambitious project, that of starting to create a roof garden at headquarters.

The Scout Troop was also involved in this initiative as part of its participation in the Scouts and Guides for the (United Nations’ Sustainable Development) Goals initiative, set up by the Scout Association of Malta and Sostenibilità within The Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness.

This project contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by strengthening local ecosystems and addressing biodiversity loss, while supporting the responsible management of natural resources.

The tree-planting ceremony took place at headquarters on Saturday 6th June in the presence of Mr Joseph Bonello, tree expert, and Mr Simon Wallace and several other representatives of the Gozitan environmental, conservation organisation Siġar. 2 examples of 5 species of indigenous trees were planted.

The Victoria Scout Group would like to thank the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, Mr Joseph Bonello, all the volunteers at the organisation Siġar and the Alfred Mzzi Foundation for making this project possible.

Presentation to the FSEG

Every year, the Victoria Scout Group organises a lunch in aid of the Friends of the Sick and the Elderly, (FSEG) Gozo. This year’s event was held in April.

On Saturday 6th June, the Group Council Chairman, Michael Grech, the Group Treasurer Gino Mizzi and the Group Scout Leader Jesmond Scerri presented a cheque with the proceeds of that lunch to Mr Paul Zammit, President of the Association.

This presentation took place in front of the Group members who were reminded of their commitment to help others as stated in the Scout Law and Promise.

Mr Zammit thanked all those who contributed towards the success of this lunch.

🥾 10km Hike from Sannat to Ramls! 🌿☀️
Last Saturday evening, our Venture Scouts together with Troop members working towards their Link Badge completed an 10km hike from Sannat through Ta’ Cenc Cliffs, the beautiful Mġarr ix-Xini, along Ramla Valley, and finishing at the Ramla Bay. The activity ended with a sunset swim at Ramla.
A big well done to all participants! 👏

“I promise that I will do my best to do my duty to God and to my country”

Last Saturday, 30th May 2026, the Troop explored what it means to do one’s duty to the country as part of the Scout Promise.

The Scouts discussed how voting and the electoral system work in Malta, before putting it into practice through a full mock election for Scout President. Candidates took part in a structured debate and Q&A session, presenting their promises, ideas and proposals to the rest of the Troop.

The Scouts then voted using Malta’s Single Transferable Vote system, giving them a hands-on experience of our democratic process.

Through this session, the Scouts gained a better understanding of how democracy works and how they will one day be able to participate in it themselves.

🔗 On Saturday 30th May, our Scout Group initiated the Link Badge process within our sections. The Alpha Cubs attended a Link Badge session with the Troop Section, where they met the Scout Leader and took an active part in the Troop meeting.

Meanwhile, the older Troop members, who will be moving up to the Venture Unit by the end of the year, attended a Link Badge session with the Ventures. This included a hike and swim organised by the Venture Executive.

The Link Badge is designed to help young people transition smoothly from one section of the Scout Movement to the next. It gives them the opportunity to meet their future leaders and fellow members, experience the new section’s activities, and feel more confident as they prepare for the next stage of their Scouting journey.
