🌊🐬 Meet Michela, an Environmental Compliance Officer with a strong background in biology. Her MSc in Applied Biology explored how scuttled wrecks influence benthic ecosystems in the Maltese Islands 🐚, and she has also researched dolphin interactions with fisheries and aquaculture using acoustic data to understand behavioural impacts 🎧📊.

🌍 Passionate about climate change, marine conservation, and sustainability communication, Michela brings a vital island-state perspective to discussions on the energy transition and science-based environmental policy.

🌿🌦️ Young Scientists in Action at !

At San Andrea School, the Maquis Club is inspiring students to connect with nature through hands-on science and environmental care. 🌍

Throughout the year, dedicated students have been actively caring for their school’s maquis area, deepening their understanding of local biodiversity while working together as a team.

🔬 Their impact goes beyond the school grounds:
• Monitoring air pollution using diffusion tubes and contributing data to the Environment and Resources Authority
• Taking part in the GLOBE Rain Campaign, collecting rainfall data and uploading it to a global NASA database ☁️
• Recording cloud cover using the GLOBE Observer app
• Investigating plant growth through the Green Up Campaign 🌱

These initiatives show how students can play a real role in global scientific research while developing a strong sense of environmental responsibility.

👏 A big well done to all students involved for proving that curiosity, collaboration, and care for nature can truly make a difference!

🌍✨ Clear the Air – Students Making a Real Difference!

At St Ignatius College Ħandaq Middle School, innovation meets action! 💡

The students recently took part in the inspiring “Clear the Air” project, part of the global GLOBE initiative. Working collaboratively, they investigated air quality around their school using real scientific equipment and methods, turning curiosity into meaningful research. 🔬

Through teamwork and hands-on experiments, students explored environmental challenges, analysed data, and even worked alongside external partners like the Health Directorate.

💬 The highlight? They presented practical, well-informed suggestions to the Ħal Qormi Local Council on how to improve the local environment, proving that young voices can drive real change.

This project showcases not only scientific thinking, but also responsibility, creativity, and a commitment to a more sustainable future. 🌱

👏 Well done to all students involved for leading the way in environmental awareness and innovation!

🧠✨ When the brain is affected by injury, illness, or degenerative conditions, even the simplest daily tasks can feel overwhelming. But, through the science of cognitive rehabilitation, new pathways are opening—helping individuals regain function, confidence, and independence.

Join us at Malta Café Scientifique as Ms Mattea Taliana, Senior Psychology Assistant, takes us into a world where brain science meets compassionate care. With hands-on experience supporting individuals recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, and neurological conditions such as dementia, she brings a deeply human perspective to this evolving field.

🔍 In this talk, she will explore:
🧩 Restorative strategies – retraining impaired cognitive functions
🛠️ Compensatory strategies – building alternative ways to manage everyday challenges

From memory and attention to planning and problem-solving, discover how personalised, evidence-based interventions—grounded in the science of neuroplasticity—can truly transform lives. 🌱⚡

Through real-world clinical examples and emerging technologies, this session will also tackle a key challenge: ensuring therapeutic progress translates into meaningful, everyday change.

Whether you're passionate about neuroscience, mental health, or the future of personalised care, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss. 🗣️💡
