🇺🇦 Ukrainian music at SPARK FEST 2026!

On Sunday, 21 June, the “Gift the Light” project, performed by Roxy and Anastasiia with the support of the FUCM team, will take the stage at Gżira Park as part of the closing celebrations of Refugee Week Malta.

🎶 The performance will continue the much-loved programme of covers of well-known Ukrainian songs. Remember how special it was in February? This time, we promise just as much warmth, emotion, and music you will want to sing along to 💙💛

For us, this is more than a musical performance. It is an opportunity to celebrate Ukrainian culture, remind people of the ongoing war in Ukraine, and amplify the voices of those who cannot speak freely today.

The Foundation of the Ukrainian Community of Malta will also host a stand at the festival, where visitors can learn more about our work and receive Ukrainian souvenirs in return for a donation.

📅 21 June
📍 Gżira Park, Ġnien il-Kunsill tal-Ewropa
⏰ Performance: 17:45-18:00
🎟️ Free entry

Come and support Ukrainian musicians, discover different cultures, and enjoy a meaningful evening together 💙💛

Our heartfelt thanks to the teams behind SPARK FEST and Refugee Week Malta for giving us the opportunity to be heard, to speak about Ukraine, and for their important work in bringing communities together and fostering support, inclusion, and mutual understanding.

At the end of May, representatives of our organization were pleased to join a meeting with the President of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono, organized at the invitation of the Franciscan Welfare Association 🇲🇹🇺🇦

Together with the active Ukrainian community in St. Paul’s Bay, we had the opportunity to discuss important issues for Ukrainians living in Malta. In particular, community representatives shared information with Madam President about the integration of Ukrainians in Malta and raised the question of possible extensions of temporary protection for Ukrainians on the island.

We sincerely thank Madam President Spiteri Debono and the people of Malta for their continued support, kindness, and openness to the Ukrainian community over the past years 🤝

Special thanks to our friends at the Franciscan Welfare Association for their tireless work, care, and support for Ukrainians since the beginning of the full-scale invasion 💙💛

Their help remains truly invaluable to our community.
Наприкінці травня представники нашої організації були раді долучитися до зустрічі з Президенткою Мальти Міріам Спітері Дебоно, організованої на запрошення Franciscan Welfare Association 🇲🇹🇺🇦

🇪🇺 🇺🇦 Today, we mark Europe Day. For Ukraine, it is about more than geography or a political course. It is about the shared values we defend every day: freedom, democracy, dignity, the rule of law, and the right of every nation to choose its own future.

Ukraine is already part of the European family through its choice, resilience, and courage. By defending itself against Russian aggression, Ukraine is also defending the common European space of security and freedom.

🇺🇦🇲🇹🤝We are grateful to Europe, and especially to Malta, for its support, solidarity, and for giving the Ukrainian community the opportunity to remain an active voice within the European family.

A strong Ukraine means a stronger Europe. And our shared responsibility for peace, stability, and victory defines the future we are building together.

Today, April 26, marks 40 years since the Chornobyl disaster — one of the worst technological catastrophes in human history.

At 1:23 a.m. in 1986, an explosion at Reactor №4 of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant changed the course of history for Ukraine and the world. Radioactive contamination spread across more than 200,000 square kilometers, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes. Its consequences — including increased cases of thyroid cancer, especially among children, and other serious health impacts — are still felt today.

But Chornobyl is not only about the past.

During Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the Exclusion Zone became a site of danger once again. In 2022, Russian forces occupied the plant. In 2025, a Russian drone damaged the protective structure over the destroyed reactor.

40 years after Chornobyl, the world is facing a nuclear threat again. This time, it has a name: Russia — a state that occupies nuclear facilities, attacks energy infrastructure, and turns nuclear safety into a weapon of terror.

🕯️We honor the memory of thousands who risked and lost their lives to contain the disaster.

In Malta, Ukrainians are building a strong and active community 🇲🇹🇺🇦

Today, the community numbers about 5,000 people. This is nearly 1% of the country’s population. After 2022, almost 2,000 Ukrainians arrived within just six months. Ukrainians organized weekly meetups in Valletta and helped newcomers settle in.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukrainians in Malta have supported their country with humanitarian and medical aid. Hromada traces its roots back to the 2013 Maidan, from early protests to a more organized and active network today.

Today, the Foundation for the Ukrainian Community of Malta is the only non-governmental volunteer organization that brings together Ukrainian initiatives in the country. Since March 2026, it has become a full member of UWC’s worldwide network.

🇺🇦 The Ukrainian voice is also resonating at .art

🖼️ This year, Malta hosts works by Ukrainian artists Maria Kulikovska and Sofiia Bulgakova, reflecting on memory, war, vulnerability, and recovery. The Biennale spans several historic locations across the islands, with Maria Kulikovska’s «Bullets of Flowers» presented at the Birgu Old Armoury on view until 29 May. In parallel, remains on view at Spazju Kreattiv until 10 May, including Sofiia Bulgakova’s sound installation «Spomyny».

We are very proud of our Ukrainian artists. Visit the exhibitions and support emerging talent 💙💛
