As the number of EU Blue Card holders in Malta is still relatively small, we do not yet know how this process works in practice. Therefore, we encourage members of our community to share their experience with the procedure.

We would also like to remind everyone about 2 important benefits of the EU Blue Card related to changing employment:

1๏ธโƒฃ Change of employment is free of charge.

2๏ธโƒฃ If you have held your EU Blue Card for less than 12 months, Identitร  may suspend the change for up to 30 days.

Weโ€™d like to share some important updates regarding the EU Blue Card in Malta ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡น

1๏ธโƒฃ ๐๐ซ๐ž-๐ƒ๐ž๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž ๐๐จ๐ญ ๐‘๐ž๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ซ๐ž๐

As you may know, the Maltese Government has started rolling out a Pre-Departure Course. ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐ ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ง๐ž๐ฐ๐ฌ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐œ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ซ๐ž๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐„๐” ๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ž ๐‚๐š๐ซ๐ ๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ.

The ๐˜Œ๐˜œ ๐˜‰๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ฆ ๐˜Š๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฅ ๐˜‹๐˜ช๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ท๐˜ฆ sets out an exhaustive list of eligibility criteria for obtaining an EU Blue Card. Member States are not permitted to require applicants to complete integration courses as a condition for approval.

Therefore, completion of the Pre-Departure Course is not required for prospective EU Blue Card holders. This makes the EU Blue Card route significantly more straightforward compared to the KEI permit.

2๏ธโƒฃ ๐”๐ฉ๐๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐œ๐ž๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ง๐ ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐„๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฒ๐ž๐ซ / ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง

Identitร  has updated the procedure for EU Blue Card holders who change employer or job designation. The revised policy aligns with the EU Blue Card Directive.

It is ๐ง๐จ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ซ ๐ง๐ž๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐›๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ ๐š ๐ง๐ž๐ฐ ๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง when changing employer or designation. Instead, Identitร  must be notified via email at:

As a reminder, the EU Blue Card Directive also allows for the simultaneous submission of family reunification applications, which significantly simplifies the relocation process for highly skilled professionals moving with their families.

These updates make the EU Blue Card even more attractive for both employers and employees.
